Endings in GTA IV: Difference between revisions

At this time, Rockstar have not announced the canon ending, and until they do, or until the next full installment is released, no concrete evidence can prove the either ending is canon. There seems to be more evidence pointing toward the "Revenge" ending as canon. Reasons for this include the fact that during the last cutscene for this ending, it is possible to see a large explosion in the background (see [[Myths in GTA IV]]). This explosion is widely believed to be that of [[Bulgarin]]'s jet at the end of [[The Ballad Of Gay Tony]], which would be in the correct relative location to Niko on [[Happiness Island]], and the jet above [[Firefly Island]]. Other reasons include the phone calls Niko makes to Kate and Roman follwing his choice. If choosing the "Deal", Niko is berated by Kate for going back on his principles, and admits to Roman that he is unsure whether or not he made the right decision. If choosing "Revenge" however, Niko is congratulated by Kate for understanding that he doesn't need money to be happy, and tells Roman that he feels he did the right thing. Even [[Phil Bell]], who was to help Niko on the deal, believes he made the right choice in cutting his ties with [[Dimitri]].

The credits in [[The Ballad Of Gay Tony]] also show [[Packie McReary]]; Niko's friend and ally, leaving the city. Some fans take this to mean that perhaps the "Deal" ending is canon, believing Packie would not leave his mother alone after Kate's death. Packie's leaving could also be attributed to the "Revenge" ending also, seeing as he would want to get away from Liberty City following his sister's death, whereas in the "Deal" ending, Packie does not have any reason to leave so quickly.

In conclusion, the circumstancial evidence clearly supports the "Revenge" ending as canon, but as no official confirmation has been given as of yet, the outcome remains ambiguous.
