Talk:Diaz' Gang

Gang Name

Does anyone have any evidence for the name of this gang? Wikipedia lists it as "Diaz's Gang", which is apparently how it was referred to ingame. However, many sources cite the name as the "Diaz Cartel", including several pages around Wikipedia (if you trust that site). Perhaps Diaz himself once said the name of his gang? Perhaps the games files will reveal their internal name (eg DIAZGANG or DIAZCRTL).

If it turns out that the gang is unnamed (which it appears to be), then we can simply choose a descriptive title for the page. "Diaz's Gang" would be one option, and seems neutral/descriptive enough, but is difficult to spell. "Diaz Cartel" is simple, and accurate (all sources refer to it as a cartel). "The Diaz Gang" (or "Diaz Gang") seems to give it a name which it appears not to have. All comments appreciated, but please don't modify the page until an agreement has been reached. Currently the page is at the title it has always had on this wiki, and we'll keep it like that until we know we should change it. Thanks - Gboyers (?) 18:52, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

In the stats pages in Vice City, it is referred to as Diaz's Gang. Also, how is that hard to spell? As it is stated in the game as such, the article name should be Diaz's Gang. You could, however, have a paragraph explaining the different names. A-Dust 11:27, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
I second that their name should be Diaz's Gang. what's hard with spelling it that way? I guess you tried to say pronounce it? Neither that is hard either. Pretty easy spelling after all. --San Andreas Master 18:13, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Good enough for me. If it is unnamed, it would just be "Diaz's gang", but our titles are always in title case, so that's why the page is at "Diaz's Gang". By spelling I was referring to the z-apostrophe-s. Technically it should be treated like an s, and be Diaz' Gang, but a lot of modern (and many American) English sources only do that with a possessive plural, so belonging to three pencils is pencils' instead of pencils's, but Chris's is allowed. This rule conforms to how it is pronounced, where you only add the sound "-es" once, either for plural or possessive, and you don't stack them up (pencil, pencils, pencilses), although this technically wrong in English spelling. I have opted for the simple option to keep it as pronounced (as described above) - Gboyers (?) 21:21, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

It's not really unnamed. The GTA Vice City game stat refers to the organization as "Diaz's gang", emphasis on the lower-case "gang". Of course, to maintain consistency, I think it's best left capitalized for our purposes. Thoughts? EganioTalk 20:30, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
