Some, although probably not all, of these changes were thought to have been as a result of the 9/11 attacks.
Perhaps the most famous BETA in [[Grand Theft Auto III]] was the [[terroist]] Darkel,Not much is known about him but it is known that he would give the player terrorist like missions for example [[I Scream,You Scream|attracting pedestrians with an ice cream truck rigged with a bomb and blow up the pedestrians]] (which was later given to [[El Burro]] in the final version),Set people on fire with a [[Flamethrower]],Rigging a [[Schoolbus]] with a bomb and blowing up the [[Liberty City High School]],and hitting a [[Dodo]] in the Love Building to kill [[Donald Love]].Another deleted character was [[Curtly]] though not much is known about him he may be linked to Darkel.Before [[Rockstar North]] chose [[Claude]] as the protagonist they were considering another protagonist called [[Novy]] but changed it for no reason.
The graphics were completely different from the final version,as the BETA graphics were more cartoonish like The Simpsons video game.Before [[Punk Noodles]] was added it was just 2 statues.Another famous feature was the adding of kids in the beta version but Rockstar took it out as it would cause alot of controversy.

Before the release of any GTA games there had been deleted features that were takin out of the final version.From deleted characters to deleted missions.

The LCPD police vehicle liveries were changed from then-current NYPD blue with white stripes to LAPD-style black and white.
The character of Darkel, a revolutionary domestic terrorist, was cut. (Some, but not all, of his missions were subsequently given to other characters.)
