Claude then arrives at the mansion and hands over the money to Catalina, who lies and walks off with the money leaving Claude in the mercy of her Colombian Cartel men.

The mission is split in three parts:
 
'''1) Ending The Truce:''' As you arrive in the Cartel Mansion with the cahs, the men from the [[Colombian Cartel]] will let you in. Catalina will show up and you'll give her the cash, but she won't go with her end of the bargain, she won't give you Maria and she'll take the cash. Catalina leaves and then tells one of her men to kill you, but as he prepares to shoot you, you deliver a hard elbow blow to the face and snatch his gun.
 
Now, pick up the gun and run for your life! Head for the garage, and quick, since the Cartel men will start shooting at you. When you're in the garage, pick up the armor spawn ther and get in the [[Cartel Cruiser]] parked there, then, run over the Cartel men and get out through the gate. You will see how Catalina pulls Maria into a [[Maverick]] helicopter, then gets in with her. The chopper takes off and heads for [[Cochrane Dam]], follow it there and the second part of this mission starts.  


'''2) The Dam Shootout:''' When you arrive at Cochrane Dam, the Cartel will be waiting for you, ram through their blockade and get in the Dam. Ram your way through some Cartel men and then get out, start shooting. Kill your way through the Cartel men until you reach the [[M4 Carbine]] spawn, pick it up and shoot the heavily armed Cartel men. Eventually you'll reach a bunch of Cartel guys, three heavily armed and one riding a [[Barracks OL]], kill the guy in the Barracks by shooting through the windshield and then killed the heavily armed guys with the Carbine.
Claude, having no choice, is put under gunpoint by a Cartel gang member and decides to punch him and take the [[pistol]] dropped. After being shot at, he gets a car and exits the mansion only to find a [[Helicopter (GTA III)|helicopter]] hovering above him and flying towards the [[Cochrane Dam]] to meet Catalina, who has headed there to escape with Maria. Claude follows the helicopter all the way to the base of the dam and kills every Cartel goon on his way.


'''3) S.A.M.: Surface to Air Missile:''' Eventually, Catalina will drop off Maria at the dam and continue her way, but first she wants to kill you. More Cartel guys will come after you, but Catalina will attack from above, dropping bombs from her chopper and setting the Dam on fire. Make your way thropugh the dead and living Cartel gunmen and you'll reach the Dam loading bay. Two Cartel men will be guarding Maria, kill them and go towards her, now Maria will follow you.  
After coming halfway and nearly closing into the helicopter, Catalina leaves Maria at the loading bay, guarded by a couple of her men and enters her helicopter. Catalina's chopper fires missiles at the ground while Claude gets to Maria, kills all the Cartel men. Claude picks up a [[Rocket Launcher]] to shoot down Catalina. After a few initial missed shots, he successfully manages to hit the helicopter and it crashes against the dam in the water. Afterward, Claude and Maria walk together as they cross over to the other side of the dam.
Go towards the edge of the loading bay, there's a [[Rocket launcher]] set up there, pick it up. Then take aim at Catalina's chopper and end this, fire a rocket at it, the copter will get hit, spin out of control and explode. It's over, Catalina is dead, most of the Cartel has been slaughtered in this vicious gun battle and your enemies are finished. Mission complete. The game has a happy ending.


In the final cutscene an Announcer describes the gun battle with testimony from a witness, Clive Denver.  
While the credits are rolling on the screen Maria can be heard talking right before a gunshot, after which, she remains silent and is no longer heard. The news also report the crime scene with witness [[Clive Denver]].

The Exchange is a mission in and the climax of Grand Theft Auto III given to protagonist Claude by Colombian Cartel leader and ex-girlfriend Catalina from the Cartel mansion in Cedar Grove, Shoreside Vale, Liberty City. This mission is the final event in the GTA III-era timeline.

Mission

Catalina recently killed Asuka Kasen and kidnapped Maria Latore. She now wants Claude to bring $500,000 to the Cartel mansion in Cedar Grove in exchange for not having Maria killed. Claude then arrives at the mansion and hands over the money to Catalina, who lies and walks off with the money leaving Claude in the mercy of her Colombian Cartel men.
