Rockford

Rockford in GTA III, as seen to the northwest.

Rockford is a district in northern Staunton Island, Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Advance and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. It borders Fort Staunton and Liberty Campus to the south, Aspatria to the west, and an unspecified body of water to the north and east.

Character and places of interest

Rockford is the north easternmost district of Staunton, with much of its northern and eastern ends being coastlines, and the district being sparsely developed. The primary feature of the district is Staunton's only hospital, Carson General Hospital, which sits on much of the district's southern half.

Other locations in the district vary between GTA III and GTA Liberty City Stories. In GTA III, set in 2001, Phil's Army Surplus compound is situated on the northernmost tip of the district, among a complex for small warehouses; the same location in GTA Liberty City Stories is occupied by the Staunton terminal for the Portland-Staunton ferry service, suggesting Phil moved to Rockford from his old business location in Bedford Point after the closure of the ferry services, converting the site into an arms storage.

In GTA III, the Staunton end of Porter Tunnel is also situated within Rockford, just east of Carson General. The tunnel entrance is still present in GTA Liberty City Stories, but is closed, citing ongoing construction.

Rockford is also served by the Liberty City Subway, with an underground station named after the district technically located on the northeastern corner of neighboring Liberty Campus, just across the road from Carson General. The green areas and the location of Rockford as well as some points of interest are a clear similarities to New York City´s Inwood.

Trivia

  • In GTA III, Buses, Coaches, various trucks and Trashmasters commonly spawn in and around the district, as every fourth spawned vehicle is typically a large truck or bus.
