Old Reece is a character in the 3D Universe who appears as a minor character in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. He is a barber and owns the Reece's Hair & Facial Studio in Idlewood, Los Santos. He is voiced by Bill Reese.

Character history

Old Reece, presumably born in the poorer neighbourhoods of Los Santos, trained as and became a barber, later opening his own Hair & Facial Studio in Idlewood, Los Santos. He is known to the Johnson family as Beverly Johnson would bring her son Carl "CJ" Johnson and presumably also her eldest son Sean "Sweet" Johnson and Carl's younger siblings Brian and Kendl to his studio when he was a child. Shortly after his return to Los Santos in 1992, and Beverly's funeral, Carl visits Old Reece at his studio and receives a new haircut despite childhood friend Lance "Ryder" Wilson's warning that he suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

The player can return to the studio to receive a new haircut from Old Reece, who will reminisce about Carl's childhood and how grown up he has become. During these meetings, he also tells Carl to remind his childhood friend and later enemy Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris to get a haircut, despite Smoke being bald and even dying.

Personality

Despite having little relevance to the story, it is clear that Old Reece knows most of Ganton's residents. He is a friendly person who knows Carl and his family well. When Carl gets a haircut from him, he may mention that his father used to get the same haircut, indicating that they knew each other. However, it is implied that Old Reece suffers from Alzheimer's disease, though that may just be an insult on Ryder's part.

Trivia

Old Reece can be killed at any time but continues to re-appear after exiting and re-entering his studio.
It is suggested that Old Reece has Alzheimer's disease, with Ryder commenting that he "popped his membrane years ago", which is supported by him telling Carl to remind Smoke to get a haircut, despite his baldness. He also continues to say this after Smoke's death.
Old Reece also bears a small resemblance to actor Morgan Freeman, whose father was also a barber.
Old Reece is the only character with a unique design, other than the girlfriends, who can be met outside of missions.
