For previous discussions, please see Archive 1, Archive 2 and Archive 3.

I will usually reply to any posts on your own talk page so that you get an email. You may reply back here, or over there, I will get emails either way. However to start a new discussion, you MUST come back to me. (I will however reply here to messages by Gboyers).

Also please note that another user may answer your question before I do, and they may answer on this page. So if you don't get a reply, it might be a good idea to check back here, because after another user replies, I won't unless I have additional information or opinion (and if the other user replies here, so will I).

Promotion to Manager

Congratulations, you have finally been promoted to Manager! You have recently shown an interest in, and aptitude for, the inner workings and strategy of this wiki, and I think it's time you took the lead on a few more issues. The role of Manager has recently changed slightly: it is now a lead administrator, looking after the team, being a point-of-contact for users and staff, figuring out what works needs to be done, inspiring users to contribute, and leading discussions on policy/strategy. It is not about decision-making, it's about leadership, organisation, and project and resource management - but it's still a step beyond the administrator role. I'd like to see you leading some cleanups, reviewing old templates/infoboxes, cleaning up the project namespace, and inspiring users to do more. Good luck! Gboyers 12:03, 28 October 2010 (BST)

Just to add my congratulations on the promotion! A-Dust 13:46, 28 October 2010 (BST)

Game names in articles

Regarding this. My policy actually is that in sentences, you should use the short form (GTA San Andreas). Same with article titles (except for the games themselves) and categories. I really hate sentences like on Cheetah: "The Cheetah is a two-door sports car that has appeared in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories" - these should be changed to use short-form game names. Gboyers 08:56, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Makes sense to me (hence I made that edit), but the part of the policy that I was referring to was the following from the consistency policy:
In articles, the game's name should be shown in full once. After that, an abbreviated version can be used without a colon.
It was obvious to me that what the original editor was doing (with in GTA San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, (etc)) was using short form for GTA SA due to it already having been mentioned, and long form for LCS due to it not having already been mentioned, and I changed it to all use short form to make it easier to read (like you say). JFletcherTalk (formerly User:Biggest gta fan ever) 09:12, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry I'd forgotten about that - yes that policy is right to an extent. If you mention one game in the first sentence, use the long form. (IE the XYZ is a car in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas). If you need a list, use the short form. If you repeat a game's name, use the short form. I would like the words "Grand Theft Auto" to appear on every page, but I don't want articles to be clogged up with it 30x. Gboyers 09:16, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

That actually clears up something that I've been thinking about for quite a while (such as the articles like Cheetah, and cases like the edit you linked to). Thanks for that! JFletcherTalk (formerly User:Biggest gta fan ever) 09:21, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I rewrote the consistency policy to be clearer on this, but that needs merging with Grand Theft Wiki:Style Guide at some point. Gboyers 19:41, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Re:Disabling WikiEd toolboxes

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I was wondering what that icon was meant for. - ZS 10:16, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Staff Roles

Hi, could you please fill out your section of the table at Grand Theft Wiki:Staff/Roles? That page explains the reasons, but we're just trying to assign staff some responsibility and ownership of their own sections, and give you a bit more room to do what you want to do. Thanks - Gboyers 00:37, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

if you own

a PS3 can't you play your old GTA game's on it

Becoming Inspector of the Wiki

I applied to become promoted to Inspector or Administrator of the Grand Theft Wiki. When does the actual "election" take place? Because I would love to become the inspector and help out the wiki! :)

Leaving Wikia Help

Hey man, exactly like you guys, habbo.wikia.com is likely departing Wikia. Is there any chance I can ask how you copied over your content? Btw can you recommend a wikifarm or a host? Thank you! -Imdill3 00:23, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much! lol yeah, the final straw was when Wikia made that 'purchase an ad' thing on the bottom of every article. It makes it look like it's apart of the article. Seems on Runescape Wiki, they're only used for scam/hacking sites and rival wikis O_o. Anyways, thanks again- after this project I will be proudly editing again for GTW. -Imdill3 14:27, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Page renaming

I am interested in getting the page OFLC renamed to Australian Classifacation Board because that is now the official name of Australia's OFLC. How would I go about this? Klltr 08:17, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Simply use the {{move}} template so that the staff can move it for you.--spaceeinstein 09:28, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

What?

What's your problem bro? Why are you telling me to grow-up? I didn't even do anything? Grand Theft AJ 04:16, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

I received an e-mail that a page I created the talk for Ultimate Disk in the Dark was deleted and a message with you stating "Grow up kid? Really?" or something along those lines. But I don't recall writing anything that would earn that type of response. Also I can't see what I said because the page was deleted and there is no History. Was this directed at sometihng I had typed or was there another addition to the page that I wasn't informed about via e-mail? Grand Theft AJ 04:46, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Haha, no no, I'm the one who was misunderstood. Thanks for clearing that up, I was just a little confused at first. Grand Theft AJ 05:48, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi

Wikia has been receiving reports from your wiki that a user has been copying stuff from this wiki and adding them on GTA wiki without attribution could you confirm this--Owen1983 23:29, 27 May 2011 (BST)

Copying

wikia has dealt with the user and revoked his admin right I to find his behavior unacceptable failure to supply attribution breaks your policy and fails to recognize your community which is damn right rude---Owen1983 13:31, 28 May 2011 (BST)

Re:Locked Page

Hmm, I could have sworn it was a "view source" page when I tried to click "Edit" last time. Might have misread it. Thanks for pointing that out though. Any particular reason the "edit" buttons are missing? Silver Infernus 15:47, 4 July 2011 (BST)

What the hell

Are you doing reverting me when I'm right? McJeff 17:12, 12 July 2011 (BST)

Delete

Hey JFletcher, can you do me a favour and delete Cheap Car Insurance - How to Get Cheaper Car Insurance Quotes. That article is spam and serves no good use to Grand Theft Wiki. I put a spam tag on it ages ago but it still hasn't been deleted.--MrLanceVanceDance 11:17, 19 July 2011 (BST)

Never mind. A-Dust has deleted the article.--MrLanceVanceDance 12:09, 19 July 2011 (BST)

PS3

Hello, I notice you have a PS3 and I would like to say that it's cool that you have have one.--Mizu (talk) 18:06, 30 July 2011 (BST)

RE:Monaco Userbox

This userbox is for people who use the Monaco skin to edit on other wikis, as I am sure it is still possible to use the Monaco skin on other wikis.--MrLanceVanceDance 09:56, 14 August 2011 (BST)

Yeah sure. I'll reword the userbox.--MrLanceVanceDance 10:03, 14 August 2011 (BST)

And JFletcher, what exactly is the difference between the Monobook and Monaco skins? Also, what does the Monaco Skin look like, if this wiki uses Monobook.--MrLanceVanceDance 10:08, 14 August 2011 (BST)

Thanks for your explaination and quick answer but exactly are the differences (in appearance) between the Monaco, Monobook and Vector skins .--MrLanceVanceDance 10:25, 14 August 2011 (BST)

Thaks for your explaination and quick answer. That was a good help to my understanding of skins.--MrLanceVanceDance 10:46, 14 August 2011 (BST)

Community split page on Wikia

Hi. In response to your complaints on my talk page about how GTAWikia is trying to "cover up" the move, I restored the actual discussion relating to the move and I wrote the page GTA Wiki:Community split. I realize that for you all on this wiki with your views on GTAWikia as illegitimate this is probably less than adequate, but I think it's a long shot fairer than trying to pretend nothing happened. McJeff 20:00, 3 September 2011 (BST)

Blocking

Hey JFletcher, I have been noticing that recently, every single time Grand Theft Wiki blocks somebody, they never inform the blocked user that they have been blocked and the reason why. Do you know why?--MrLanceVanceDance 11:45, 14 September 2011 (BST)

RE: Empty Image Pages

Hey JFletcher, you talked to the wrong person about this issue. I wasn't the one who prodded it, it was User:Andreaz1--MrLanceVanceDance 00:52, 9 October 2011 (BST)

Inspectors

Hey, could you please weigh in on this discussion, and also respond to this? Thanks - gboyers talk 06:46, 9 October 2011 (BST)

Delete Please...

Hey JFletcher, I have placed about 40 images in Category:Delete. I was wondering if you could do me a favour and delete them. Thanks.--MrLanceVanceDance 08:41, 11 October 2011 (BST)

Protecting Talk Pages

Hey JFletcher, according to the Grand Theft Wiki: Staff article, Inspectors can protect talk pages. Can you please tell me how to do? Thanks--MrLanceVanceDance (talk) 08:02, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Anything to do..

Hey. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to help the wiki. Any big projects? I really wanna be an admin, but I know I've got AGES to go. Again, just any projects?

Cheers,

Patrol Log

Hey just a quick note about Special:Log/Patrol - it's currently useless. When it says "User:X patrolled edit Y" it actually means "Edit Y (made by User X) was patrolled by someone". You'll notice it ALWAYS shows the author as doing the patrolling, even when the author is an ordinary member without patrol rights, and even where a staff or trusted member did the patrolling. I'm looking to fix that. gboyers talk 06:36, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Fixed Width

You are allowed to edit the main css you know! That's better than just fixing it for yourself and leaving stuff broken for everyone else. The fixed width is an unwanted side-effect of floating the main page divs. I changed them from a table to divs so that they wouldn't break on smaller resolutions (and mobile). I floated them both left so that when the resolution is smaller, the right div falls below the left one. Unfortunately that only worked when both divs were fixed-width, and I've not had time to sit down and figure out why it didn't work with a min-width or some fixed-width content inside them. Any ideas? gboyers talk 18:22, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Fair enough, I wasn't sure what your reasons for fixed width were, and just because I don't like something doesn't mean it's broken. And now that you've made it relative again I can see what you mean about the min-width not working. If you make the the window small enough, it actually breaks, and some of the content is moved below the right div. EDIT: What I just described can be fixed by using a wrapper div with a min width - Tested (in preview) and works, though that ruins the idea of making the right div move below the left one on smaller resolutions. Some help with a page.

Could you help me? I am wondering if you could jump in and play GTA IV search for Marnie Allen on the LCPD database? I am asking because of the page it says Petit Larceny, but I am question the validity of what was written, from my sources(google and GBoyers xP) it says the Petty Larceny is more commonly used. Thanks in advanced. Steahl (talk) 22:13, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

No thank you :). Steahl (talk) 23:27, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Test Edits

Sorry about fudging up the Rancher article. I sort of got ahead of myself. I'm planning on trying to revise/add to the information provided about the all the vehicles, as I've spent a lot of time driving, editing, and analyzing them (I do amazingly pointless things like that when I'm bored). I've already begun work on this article, though I can't finish tonight. I wasn't sure how to put the article in an "under construction" state, but I didn't want to discard all the changes I've made. If you could let me know where I stand with that, I'd be thankful. I plan on finishing it tomorrow. SuperNoodle (talk) 11:05, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Discussion

We're planning to have another discussion about our plans for GTA V in the IRC chat again tonight, starting in half an hour (9pm GMT/8am in Sydney). Hope to see you there if you can make it. A-Dust 20:29, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Loss of rights

I don't suppose you could look into why I'm no longer allowed to move and delete pages? I can, at the moment, only watch and purge pages. A-Dust 21:51, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Same here. Caught wind about it at A-Dust's talk page and found I also lost the ability to move or delete. Has Gboyers been contacted about it? - ZS (talk) 13:17, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Nobody put anything on my talk page? If anything happens, you should do that, because it instantly notifies me by SMS. I know what's caused this issue, and I've restored staff's user groups. JFletcher can provide Alumni status to suitable ex-staff, and any admin can provide Trusted User status to a user, so I'd advise you guys to do that! gboyers talk 16:41, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Well, I can now move pages but the delete function is still missing. Technically I'm no long an active staff and I'm only editing sparingly, so an alumni status should be enough. - ZS (talk) 10:23, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
I can see here that Alumni no longer have delete rights (though they do have undelete rights). As is explained here, some permissions were lost during some changes that were made to the software recently. I will add this to that discussion. JFletcherTalk (formerly User:Biggest gta fan ever) 10:37, 25 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That's a weird one, no idea how it happened, but it's fixed! Anything else missing? gboyers talk 12:35, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

It's back to normal now. Thanks. - ZS (talk) 14:29, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Re: Gameids Template

Hey - I'd forgotten to finish what I started! I've fixed the infobox templates - they now all use Template:Gameselect to turn the game1/game2/game3 inputs into links and automatically adding the relevant semantic properties. So now if you look at Property:Appearance, it shows the games for each mission, character and vehicle. This means we can generate automatic lists per-game of each vehicle/character/mission - like we do with characters on the country pages like United Kingdom. What we really need to do is check for any vehicles/missions/characters that don't use the infoboxes properly - where instead of specifying the new game1/game2/game3 parameters, they just specify links or a list of games. If they're not using the game1/game2/game3 parameters they won't be formatted properly and they won't set the semantic properties. Did any of that make sense? :p gboyers talk 11:14, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Animals page

Just wanted to say thanks for the help. I know here on this wiki, it's common practice, especially amongst the management and higher staff to help other users, and I'm willing to return the favor anytime. Although it is so common to give and receive help, I just felt like acknowledging it and giving positive feedback, and hope this lifts your day even higher. -IanPhoenix (talk|edits) 02:23, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. The anticipation of GTA V is really what keeps me interested right now. It has gotten me back into the series again, as I am currently working on my TLAD game, trying to finish it (my wife have one TV, and it's not too often that I have control of it). I hope my edits give you the encouragement you need too. Editing is always easier when you have help. -IanPhoenix (talk|edits) 02:56, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Signature

I was just wondering how to get the "talk" after my name in superscript. Is it possible for me to do it as an Administrator, or is it only for managers? Ian Phoenix (talk|edits) 02:45, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, I got it! Ian Phoenixtalk 02:58, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks

I just wanted to say thank you for all you've done to help me throughout my time here on GTW. You've been a big help on many occasions and I really appreciated your efforts. While it's sad to see you go on the eve of such a big launch, I understand you have your wills and reasons and I respect that. I wish you luck wherever you go.
