Mary Valvona
Mary Valvona is the sixty year old leader of the Pavano Family. She took control of the Pavano Family after her husbands death. She was suspected of poisoning him but was never charged. She sends many of her men to go to a deal to ambush James Pegorino, who was preparing to give the Pavanos money at an old refinery. Her latest love interest is Mario Venturella, a cat burglar from Algonquin. She was once in a relationship with family consigliere Arthur Zepulla and funded his law degree. She is the only Don in all the Grand Theft Auto to be a women. A female has never been the head of a New York mafia family, but it was a slight trend during years of trouble for Sicilian mobs, with women like Erminia Giuliano, Giussepina Vitale, or Catena Cammarata of the Riesi family (all, like Maria, taking over for dead or incarcerated husbands, fathers, brothers, etc).
