Biography
Packie McReary was born into a life of crime; with his three older brothers all criminals of various stripes (Gerald a mobster, Derrick a former IRA volunteer and Francis a petty thief turned corrupt cop), there was little chance of him taking a different path. Packie's aggressive personality and criminal lifestyle has led to his incarceration in juvenile detention, and later prison, although he has not spent as much time 'inside' as his brother, Gerry.
Childhood and Personality
Personality
Packie was born to Maureen McReary (44), and the head of the Irish Mob. His siblings consisted of brothers Derrick (23), Francis (17) and Gerald (6), Kate being born in the following year. Born and raised in Dukes, he has never been outside Liberty City. Packie's father was a violently abusive alcoholic whom Packie blames for their Mob's fall from influence. He also tells Niko that his father almost molested him, until Gerry beat his father to a pulp. Packie also calls his father a 'pervert' and condemns his memory to "the seventh circle of Hell". He began a life of crime very early, and was arrested for stealing a car when he was 18. In 2000, when he was about 21, his father killed himself.
Packie has an addictive personality, as seen in his predilection for alcohol and cocaine. Like Niko, he has a blasé attitude towards violence, but expresses none of Niko's sense of guilt. Many of his issues may arise from his upbringing, particularly from his late father, a violently abusive alcoholic whom Packie blames for the McReary Mob's fall from influence. Packie eventually tells Niko that he was almost molested by their father, but Gerry stopped him and beat their father to a pulp. He calls his father a 'pervert' and condemns his memory to "the seventh circle of Hell". Packie is portrayed as a tormented individual, suppressing his emotions under a macho, wisecracking facade. Nonetheless, he and Niko become good friends, and Packie feels that he can trust and confide in Niko.
Packie is aggressive and leads a criminal lifestyle, probably having chosen Gerry as a role model. He has an addictive personality (not quite as bad as Derrick, but a rising issue), as seen in his predilection for alcohol and cocaine. Compared to Niko, Packie is equally capable of violence and criminal activity, and feels less guilt. He does, however, still hold certain moral standards; If you kill too many hostages during the mission Three Leaf Clover, the mission will fail and Packie would say that he doesn't take this bloody money. Packie, on the surface, portrays himself as macho and wisecracking. But when drunk, he is shown time and time again to be suppressing deeply painful emotions. For example, he will question what being a man is all about, and contemplates suicide. He doesn't seem to seriously consider immediately and directly killing himself, but does glamourize the idea that he will die young of a drug overdose. He and Niko become good friends, and Packie feels that he can trust and confide in Niko.

The job gone awry, the remaining three shot their way out through several police barricades, and escaped through the subway tunnels. Niko Bellic and Packie became good friends after it's over.

After the Bank Job
After the bank job, Packie continued working with and befriending Niko, particularly in the kidnapping of Gracie Ancelotti for Gerry. Unbeknownst to Packie, Niko murdered one of his brothers. Nonetheless, Niko's assistance in suppressing an attack on the funeral cemented their friendship. Packie trusted Niko enough to encourage him to date Kate, the youngest of the McReary clan (confident that Kate would not "put out", in any case).
After the bank job, Packie continued to do family business. He joined Niko in the liberation and subsequent execution of Aiden O'Malley at Derrick's bidding, and aided in the kidnapping for ransom of Gracie Ancelotti for Gerry. This kidnapping led to another gunfight on Charge Island, with Niko and Packie pitted against the lackeys of Niko's old enemy Ray Bulgarin. Although their ransom plan failed, they had survived, and Niko earned great respect in Packie's eyes. Unbeknownst to Packie, Niko murdered one of his brothers. It is revealed in the credits for The Ballad of Gay Tony, that Packie left Liberty City with a duffel bag (this bag is likely not the bag with bank heist's money, because this sum of money need to be officially declared at customs) to an unknown location. One theory is that he probably went to visit Ireland, because he always thought that he should go, although fans speculate he headed for San Andreas as he headed west. However, there has been no confirmation as to where he went as of yet. In GTA IV, he just stays home and his friends with Niko.

Patrick "Packie" McReary (Irish: Pádraig Mac Ruairí) is a character in Grand Theft Auto IV. Packie is a member of the Irish Mob and the youngest brother of the McReary family. He acts as a boss, partner, and friend in the game. Once the player has Packie's friendship and respect percentages to a certain level, Niko may call Packie and request a car bomb. Packie will leave it in the player's general location, and once picked up it may be attached to any vehicle and remote detonated via cell phone.
