While discussing the issue of this article's name, why not split the three earliest renditions&mdash;the Squad Car from GTA1, <s>the Copper from the London packs</s> and the Cop Car from GTA2&mdash;into their respectable articles? This has certainly gone on long enough. - ZS 08:11, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

:I have redirected Police (vehicle) to this page. The article won't be moved because when I moved Cop Uniform to Cop (clothing) (because it's only called cop in the game), Gboyers moved it back saying that we don't use disambig brackets unless we really need to. So while the name is not specific we should leave all police cars from all games in the one article, as the first three don't have much information and would be stubs, like Police Cruiser and Police Patrol from GTA IV are very short articles, and I think we should consider merging them into here. The names of the first three police cars should however definitely redirect back here. Thoughts? ::The names of the polices cars in GTA IV, as well as the early GTAs, are vastly different. If we go ahead with the merge, it also goes against cases where vehicles with even the most minor of spelling and naming differences (like the Mesa Grande and Mesa, and the Buccaneer and Bucanneer) end up with separate articles. wikiGTA also separates cars by their names (although the "Police" is inaccurately named there), resulting in multiple articles for cars of different names. I prefer a "see also" section in the end, as shown in the Taxi and Stretch articles, for examples.

:::You have a couple of good points there, which makes not just the police cars, but a few things (like all the different Taxis and minor spelling changes) to be discussed. After some thought I have realised that all the different Taxis, separate articles are for Taxis that are in the SAME games but just have different names (because they are different). So there is nothing to discuss there. I think we need a bit of input from other users about the police cars, and the minor spelling changes should also be discussed (and I will be checking to see if it already has). ::The biggest problem that I see with that is giving the correct article name to the first three police cars, and the two from GTA IV, and leaving the GTA III era Police in an article with the wrong name (Police Car). Maybe we can put a message at the top saying something like This article is about the vehicle called Police in the GTA III Era, for police cars in other games see the See Also section (or we could name all the cars in that message). Thoughts? Biggest GTA Fan EverTalk 00:07, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

:::As far as the article heading is concerned, it sounds fine. But what's wrong with Police (vehicle) or Police (car) anyway? It seems necessary when naming accuracy is needed. - ZS 12:22, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

:Here we have a page for each vehicle. Even if it looks different, the Police car is still essentially the same vehicle for the same purpose. If we split it into Police car in GTA III etc, the information on all those pages would be almost identical. So instead we just have one page, and have a section on the different appearances, which makes sense when you think what people would be looking for. If we have a LOT to write about the different appearances, then we could split them up, but still have a central "Police Car" page to discuss the USE of police vehicles, and to describe the different renditions. I think Police Cruiser and Police Patrol are good examples of where the differences are on a separate page, but the similarities are still here on this central page. Perhaps you could make a new page for the GTA III era police cars? Police Car in GTA III Era is what we would usually call this, which is nicer than Police (GTA III era vehicle) or some daft wikipedia concoction like that.<br>As for naming it Police Car over Police (vehicle), the simple answer is simplicity. Brackets and mixed-cases are awkward to use, and makes the pages harder to find. It makes so much more sense to call the article "police car" than it does to call it something complicated. We use brackets when we have to, when there is no other option (when it saves us adding 5 additional words), but this will always use a disambig to make it easily findable. Technically the vehicle is called "Police", so technically it should be at Police, but "Police Car" is closer (and more obvious) than "Police (vehicle)". I favour findability, usability and descriptiveness over minor awkward technical minutia. Gboyers talk 00:28, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

::The least that can be done is creating a section dedicated to the various names of the car. I'm still bothered the Squad Car and Cop Car are still referred to as the "Police Car". Imagine the confusion if someone intends to locate these cars in vehicle lists or categories. - ZS 17:45, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
