:I do not support vandalising the GTA Wiki site, but I'm not going to go around defending that site or the people that run it. GTA Wiki gets all the traffic it does because it's all the traffic we built up when we were at Wikia, on the same domain; and because almost 100% of your content is from Grand Theft Wiki - MY site that I founded in 2006 - and the five years of work that users have put in to it since. Vandalising sites is no way to spread the message; but as for Wikia's tactics - including putting money and adverts before content and users, banning the administrators and users who wanted to move, and completely ignoring the community - that is no way to behave either. :You say that you "think it would be better for them if they found a helpful informative wiki rather than a vandalised mess". I disagree. I think it would be better for visitors to have ONE wiki with ALL the information they want, and that every good user contributes to. Right now, there are two sites, which dilutes content, users and quality on both. The visitors lose out. You might suggest that we 'give up' and go back to Wikia, but I think that is a ridiculous idea. The founder, staff and users of a site should be able to move it. We moved the site, and that copy was left behind. Wikia had no moral right to maintain the copy and take all the credit and the traffic and users that should be coming here.
:If you created a site, if you put 5 years of work into it, and it became popular and people loved it, how would you feel if someone copied it, took all the credit, and took all your traffic? Then when the users are upset about the way they've been treated, they come and ask you to help their site? It's ridiculous and I have no sympathy for the attention-seeking administrators that just want to be staff. If you really cared about creating a good quality wiki, you would have helped out here and you would probably have become staff here. But you chose to take control of the abandoned, illegitimate copy just so you could become staff; and you're working to improve that copy over the real Grand Theft Wiki. Do you really think that is the right thing to do? Gboyers 20:27, 10 July 2011 (BST)
I have nothing against you, and I haven't looked into your personal history to know the details of your promotion. Also, it wasn't "not liking the skin" that made us leave Wikia, it was a huge range of issues from the horrendous advertising (which you don't see as a logged-in administrator), to completely ignoring the HUGE range of opinion regarding the new skin, to the complete disregard of users that was emerging. I am still very glad we left, and I know many sites that want to, but Wikia's policy of demoting and banning users/staff of moved sites whilst continuing to run the sites makes it a very tough choice. I really don't see why someone would want to support Wikia, when the vast majority of users that wrote the content for the site, and all the staff that made it the awesome site it is, moved the site here. I don't get why you seem to think that Wikia is in the right to do what they do. It's not a case of having a tantrum cos we don't like the new skin - it's OUR site, and we moved it. :I hold my opinions for well-founded reasons. Policies like "Competence is required" are brutal and completely against the spirit of this wiki (and it is NOT a wikipedia policy, just a suggestion). And your staff defended each other even when they were breaking the law and when one was sacked by Wikia. Personally, you seem very sensible, so I still have no idea why you associate yourself with such a negative wiki. As for Greg, whilst he seems to have got into a dispute on Wikia, I have no quarrel with him. Unlike gta.wikias staff, I do assume good faith and give people the chance to improve. In the specific instance with Sex Club 7 and other things, the staff were rude, refused to listen to a user who genuinely wanted to help, and that is what made him get upset and turn abusive. Here, none of our staff ever yell at users or call them idiots, and none of them are rude to us. That speaks volumes, I think. Hi Tom. Yes, that was a long time ago, and I too had thought that had been left behind. Whilst I was very angry at your comments at the time, it was incensed by other comments seen on the forums and on Twitter by other users exhibiting similar hatred/fear/dislike towards gay people and women, which is why you received the very negative message you've just quoted to me. A lot of my comments there were not explicitly directed at your personal feelings, but those that you represented.
The two comments I object to are  "playing as a woman wouldn't be as bad as a gay protagonist" (which wrongly implies both would ruin the game) and "men will always prefer playing as men, unless they are gay" (which wrongly implies gay men like to be women). Can you see why I objected to those?
Now you've taken the time to explain some of your comments, and I look at them further in context, I can see you were mostly trying to state what you thought other people would want, rather than explicitly state a hatred, but the way you explained this directly implied that a female or gay protagonist would ruin the game and was generally negative towards both groups. Whilst I stand by that a lot of my general comments, if as you say you were simply trying to talk about sales figures and have no personal dislike or negativity, then I apologise for the comments directed at you, but it could have been explained much better than it was.
I'm not saying the GTA V main character will or should be gay or female - that is entirely up to Rockstar and the way they want the game to go. However, I stand by the fact that a gay or female character would not make a huge difference to the game (or ruin it), but I think either would open up additional avenues that could not be explored with a heterosexual male character. Just like CJ's colour and culture opened up storylines that would have been out-of-place for Tommy or Niko. I stand by it being closed-minded and ignorant to suggest the game would be crap or worse because of this - a well-written female or gay character could still be as badass and awesome as any male character. Yes, it might take a leap of faith for some narrow-minded individuals to accept that, and yes some would refuse to buy it (out of ignorance, and at their loss), but I have total faith in Rockstar to be able to pull something like that off.
I hope you understand where I was coming from. gboyers talk
