Drive-Thru is the fifth storyline mission and third central storyline mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas given to protagonist Carl "CJ" Johnson by his brother, deuteragonist and Grove Street Families leader Sean "Sweet" Johnson from his house in the Grove Street cul-de-sac in Ganton, Los Santos, San Andreas.

Mission

Carl finds Sweet and childhood friends Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris and Lance "Ryder" Wilson as he appears at his brother's house. Smoke suggests getting something to eat, and Carl drives them to the Cluckin' Bell in Willowfield where they order their food. Whilst they are eating their food, Ryder spots some Kilo Tray Ballas gang members in a pink Voodoo watching them and heading towards Ganton. The Ballas car turns around and performs a drive-by on Sweet's vehicle.

Carl drives after the Ballas, whilst Sweet and Ryder shoot at the car, eventually destroying it. Smoke decides to eat everybody's food instead of helping the team attack the Balla gang car. Carl drives then back to Ganton, before driving Smoke back to his home in Idlewood.

Script

(Lance "Ryder" Wilson, Sweet, Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris, and Carl are all outside Sweet's house.)

CJ: (as the other three come out) What's happening with you, Ryder?

Big Smoke: (while exiting) Respect has to be earned, Sweet - just like money.

Sweet: (as they exit) So what you saying? You don't respect me?

Big Smoke: What I'm saying is... (stops to face Sweet)

Sweet: Speak up, nigga! (ready to confront Smoke)

Big Smoke: (chucks off) I'm hungry! (laughs)

CJ: (as they proceed to the car) Oh, man! Shit... Hey, what's going on?

Big Smoke: Man cannot live on bread alone. I know. I've tried that shit. Carl, you look a little thin, man. You gotta be hungry, man.

CJ: Yeah, I could eat.

Ryder: Man, what you fools trying to eat? What about some tacos?

Sweet: Tacos? Again? Hell no.

Big Smoke: Chicken, man. No discussion.

Ryder: Man, I don't want no chicken...

(Carl starts driving towards the Cluckin' Bell in Willowfield.)

Sweet: Carl, you drive. Smoke looks like he's gonna pass out.

CJ: (as the four drive) How'd Moms get killed? We gotta talk about it.

Ryder: We all gotta talk about it! They was going for Sweet!

Big Smoke: How you supposed to know that? You know what people are like. Say they have love for you, but won't say a word. Too damn scared.

Ryder: Some people say they saw a green Sabre doing the work. Then speeding away.

Big Smoke: Yeah, but people like to talk, don't they? Anyway, that's half of Santos you talkin' about.

Ryder: Yeah, you right, my bad.

CJ: Hey, bro?

Sweet: They just sprayed the house. I ain't see shit.

(Carl arrives at Cluckin' Bell and pulls up on the driveway.)

Cluckin' Bell Employee: Can I take your order, please?

Big Smoke: Carl, what do you want? You gotta eat to keep your strength up, man.

CJ: Hey, I'll take a number 9 - fat boy.

Ryder: Gimme a number 9, just like his.

Sweet: Let me get a number 6 with extra dip.

Big Smoke: I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, (Carl and Ryder turn to him, astounded) one with cheese, and a large soda. (they return to position)

CJ: Hey, sorry, bro, you know I gotta know about Moms.

Sweet: I know CJ, I know. I mean I'm just trying not to think about it, is all. I mean, I didn't even know she was hit until it was all over...

Big Smoke: (collects the order) Yeah, right, right, right, right, right. Let's eat. (they pull up on the other end)

Ryder: Hey, don't we got beef around here? We been getting into it with these fools.

Big Smoke: I can't stand cold food. unlike you, I ain't never ate from a trash can.

CJ: (laughs even as Ryder snatches his order) Oh, shit - trash can bitch!

Sweet: Pass me my food.

Ryder: (as a pink Voodoo passes by) Hey, hey look - Kilo Trays scoping us out!

Sweet: Damn, Ryder, you're a jinx!

CJ: Shit, them mother-fuckers headed to the 'hood! (the Voodoo turns to reverse)

Sweet: (ducking as he pulls out his pistol) DRIVE-BY!

(Carl drives, chasing the Ballas car, whilst Sweet and Ryder shoot at the vehicle.)

Sweet: Hit it! Go, go, go! Hit the gas, we gotta ice these niggas!

Ryder: Why you ain't blastin', Smoke?

Big Smoke: I'll shoot 'em when I'm done eatin'.

CJ: Quit stuffin' your motherfuckin' mouth! Let's go!

Big Smoke: I ain't stuffin' it homie, I'm enjoyin' my meal. Hey, kill that asshole! Shit, this a great sandwich!

Ryder: Smoke! Stop stuffin' your face and start popping them Ballas!

Sweet: And them fools are trying to enjoy our deaths! Now, c'mon, Smoke, shoot!

Big Smoke: Hey, I'm just finishing my fries! My Special!

Ryder: Ahhh, shit! You got ketchup all over the seat!

Ryder: My soda, its all over the fuckin' floor!

Sweet: Well you can suck it up once we're done! Now keep your eyes on the Ballas car!

(Finally, Carl, Sweet and Ryder kill the Ballas.)

Ryder: Man! That was some serious shit!

Sweet: Yeah, those Balla fools won't try that again! Carl, let's get back to the Grove.

CJ: Alright, I'm on it!

Big Smoke: Man, that food filled the hole!

Ryder: You chubby motherfucker! Next time you better start blasting or I will blast you myself!

Sweet: Smoke, you're wide, man, I mean wiide!

Big Smoke: Yeah, and that's why you love me, baby!

(Carl drives back to Grove Street.)

Big Smoke: That's one up for the Grove!

Ryder: Say what, Smoke? All you managed to do was eat my damn food up!

Big Smoke: Yeah, it was gettin' cold!

Sweet: Y'all comin' in for a beer?

Big Smoke: Nah baby, I need to get back to the crib. CJ, gimme a ride?

CJ: Alright Smoke, let's go. See y'all later.

(Carl drives Big Smoke back to his home in Idlewood after Ryder and Sweet exit.)

CJ: What was with you back there, Smoke?

Big Smoke: Man, if you can eat your food, while everybody else is losing theirs, and blaming you, you straight, homie!

CJ: What?

Big Smoke: Nothing, nothing, just some poetry I read.

CJ: Ae, Smoke, tell me why you moved out of the Grove!

Big Smoke: Man, I (just) got some money from my aunt. I mean, this a nice place and all, but the Grove is in my heart, baby, it's where my dogs is at.

CJ: Yeah, okay, homie!

(They arrive at Smoke's house in Idlewood.)

Big Smoke: Hey thanks, Carl. Hey, I've missed having you around, baby.

CJ: Thanks, man. I wish Sweet thought like that.

Big Smoke: He don't mean it, CJ. He's still real tor' up about your Moms, man. Here, get yourself a little smokey smoke on Smoke, and relax, homie. (leaves)

Reward

The rewards for completing the mission are $200 and an increase in respect. The mission Nines and AKs is unlocked. The Gyms across the state of San Andreas are available for use after receiving the phone call from Sweet.

Big Smoke's Order

Smoke places a huge order at Cluckin' Bell which has become a notable meme:

Cluckin' Bell Employee: Can I take your order, please?

Big Smoke: Carl, what do you want? You gotta eat to keep your strength up, man.

Carl Johnson: Hey, I'll take a number 9 - fat boy.

Ryder: Gimme a number 9, just like his.

Sweet: Let me get a number 6 with extra dip.

Big Smoke: I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.

Post-mission Phone Call

CJ: Yeah?

Sweet: Hey, CJ, it's Sweet.

CJ: Hey, whassup?

Sweet: If you don't respect your body, ain't nobody gonna respect you! Looking too skinny, CJ, you need to pack on some muscle.

CJ: If I wanted nagging, I'd buy a clockwork wife.

Sweet: Just looking out for you, homie, it's all show and respect, you know.

CJ: Yeah, I guess.

Sweet: There's a gym I go to a couple of blocks away from the Grove. Go check it out and get yourself a gangster physique.

CJ: I'll scope it out, later man!

Trivia

  • During this mission, the Ballas are seen using a pink Voodoo with tinted windows. This is odd since the Ballas do not use the Voodoo as a gang car, but instead, the Grove Street Families use the Voodoo as a gang car. The only way to make the Ballas use the Voodoo as a gang car is to modify the cargrp.dat file. The pink Voodoo was earlier seen in the mission Sweet & Kendl. This could be suggestive of the pink Voodoo bearing structual semblance with the purple colours worn by the Ballas, as well as a mockery of the Grove Street Families.
  • At the end of the mission, the Greenwood will be fireproof.
  • Sometimes, the Voodoo will crash into a police car and will get stuck there, thus giving the player time to kill the gangsters.
  • Carl, Smoke, Ryder and Sweet order Cluckin' Bell food, but later Smoke gets Burger Shot food.
  • Sometimes you can see Smoke in a T-pose in the beginning of the cutscene where he, Ryder, Sweet and Carl are ordering food.
  • This is the only time in San Andreas that the drive-thru section at a fast food joint is used.
  • This mission is one of the first instances of Smoke's open betrayal of the Grove Street Families. Some even suggest that Smoke's hilariously huge order at Cluckin' Bell was actually a tedious ruse to buy the Ballas in the pink Voodoo enough time to sneak into Grove Street unnoticed, although Ryder, Carl and Sweet are able to quickly spot them.
