(→‎Duration of procedure: New discussion)

I would just ask a very brief question regarding the duration of the nominating/promotion procedure. Does it vary in length? I know that the procedure can vary due to staff positions however I'm still a little confused. Does there have to be a certain amount of nominations to start the procedure or does the nominated person have to prove themselves worthy of consideration. Thanks, answers would be appreciated - [[User:Montario|Montario]] 18:45, 8 August 2011 (BST)

:There is no specific time period. A manager has to accept the nomination and start the discussion, when they think it is appropriate. If the manager knows that the user is not ready, they will not start the process. If we started it too early, the nomination is likely to fail, then that user may be disheartened or even leave the wiki altogether. It's not just that - a lot of people are very active for a short period of time, nominate themselves, then disappear. By waiting, we get to see that they are committed long-term contributors. Once I am satisfied that the nominations are likely to succeed, that it's the right time for the user and for the wiki, I will start the promotion process.
:For example, I can see that you only made about 20 edits between 31 January and 25 July. That six-month absence from the wiki would be worrying for me if you became a new staff member. Since you have only been back for 2 weeks, should I expect you to stay around, or are large absences likely to happen if you get bored or if you're doing exams or whatever? It's not a showstopper, just a concern, and I wanted to give you the chance to ''prove'' that you're going to stay before putting you up for nomination. I am expecting to start the nomination discussion in a week or two, by the end of that you should have been back here for a month, and we'll have a better idea of what you intend to do. It would also help if you got involved in some bigger projects, as that shows some long-term commitment. Make sense?
