The Altruists are a cannibalistic cult living in a fortified base in Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness, Blaine County appearing in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. The word Altruists means to have an unselfish concern for the welfare of others. In Zoology the word is applied to instinctive behavior that is detrimental to the individual but favors the survival or spread of that individual's genes, as by benefiting its relatives. The authorities within San Andreas know little about the cult although there existence is known to certain individuals, including Trevor Philips and Ron Jakowski.

The Altruists are a cult living in a fort on Mount Chiliad. The word Altruists means to have an unselfish concern for the welfare of others. In Zoology the word is applied to instinctive behavior that is detrimental to the individual but favors the survival or spread of that individual's genes, as by benefiting its relatives.

The in-game website Cultstoppers.com reports rumours of 'a remote rural hideout, daylight curfews, anti-technology vitriol and human sacrifice' as part of their description of the cult. The group, consisting primarily of elder men and women, are supposedly involved in a war against the under-40s at the request of Lord Zapho, an alien who is coming to reclaim the Earth. The website reports that no former members have come forward, which is almost certainly due to them being eaten. Cult members can be seen inside the compound walking around either half naked or fully naked with certain members standing guard at watch towers. Entering their base will result in memers shooting at the player. Despite their apparent disliking of technology, the cult has a website. The website, altruistsunite.com, features a number of segments filled with morse code consisting of '.', '-' and '/' symbols, which can be read below.

Background
After the mission Nervous Ron, Ron Jakowski will send Trevor Philips a text message regarding the cult requesting "lost souls" in exchange for money. Trevor, however, appears to know of the cult already describing them as his "friends in the mountains" and can later take certain random characters to their base. After four "lost souls" have been delivered, a random event beigns with Trevor being led into the camp at gunpoint and, after managing to get free, must fight his way out of their base by killing the cult members present. The event also allows Trevor to obtain $125,000, which is located in five briefcases worth $25,000 each around the camp. An event elsewhere in Blaine County sees two cult members attempting to attack and kidnap a woman.
The Altruist Cult is a malevolent religion comprised entirely of old men from the baby boom generation that believe all other generations after them are the cause of all problems in the world and with a distaste for technology, even though some members use cars, and the entire group maintains a website.

Members can be seen walking around half naked, some fully naked. The cult makes their home in a small but functional fortified village in the Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness, with numerous buildings painted with their livery.

Events of GTA V
After the mission Nervous Ron, a text from Ron mentions the cult requesting "lost souls" in exchange for cash. It is implied that the cult are cannibals, as Ron says that they "just want them for dinner" and are obsessed with "young blood".
Trevor can take certain random event characters to their camp for a reward, where they are most likely killed for their flesh. Trevor likely has a history of doing this as he refers to the cult as his "friends in the mountains".
After four people are delivered, an event is triggered in which Trevor is taken into the camp at gunpoint. He must then fight his way out of the compound by killing all of the cult members. There are five briefcases around the camp which each contain $25,000 (totalling $125,000), as well as an RPG, an assault shotgun, a baseball bat and body armor as well as health on the gate watch tower - all of which (except the money) respawn.
A random event can be triggered somewhere in the desert or countryside, where two cult members attempt to attack a woman.
