Category talk:Powerups
Name
The name of this category seems a little too Nintendo-esque to me. Because health and body armor pickups invariably return their respective "meters" to 100%, can these be considered as "powerups"? I take that term to mean something like increasing weapon strength, physical strength, etc., i.e. things that gradually increase over time in games, not something that has a predestined maximum and minimum that are constantly in flux. Am I being too particular??? Please tell me if I am! EganioTalk 23:19, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- "In computer and video games, power-ups are objects that instantly benefit or add extra abilities to the game character." I suggest we stick with Pickups (and Category:Pickups) to mean any collectible floating object (health, adrenaline, weapons etc). To me, powerups is increased abilities - that could include health but not weapons. As for the difference between a "boost" and a "topup" and "replenishment", I think that's reading into it a little too much. You're probably right (technically speaking) but I think we can simplify this, and it isn't going to make much difference to the general population. Gboyers talk 01:04, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
