:If it's your own user page, you can archive it whenever you want. I archive mine when it reaches around 50 sections, but it's entirely personal preference. For actual article talk pages, I would probably advise doing this at 50 sections. However, you may find it is better to archive logical parts of it - for example if there is one big discussion (such as [[Talk:Karen/spoilers]]), move that to a subpage instead of archiving the whole thing. Seeing as how I almost at 50 that will be my archive number. To archive it do you move it with the suppression of a redirect? -[[User:Gta-mysteries|Gta-mysteries]]
:Yes, you should move the page to preserve its history. Make sure you do not also "move subpages". Don't supress the redirect, as that will be a good first-edit of the new talk page (which you can then edit). I would also recommend you copy the last couple of messages onto the new talk page, so that you can continue any ongoing discussions (and so it doesn't look too empty). I choose to protect my archives to prevent them being altered (so they are an accurate record of what people said), but you may choose to let people edit them (to remove red links etc).
