:::"This means that GTA 1, GTA 2, GTA III, GTA IV and GTA V all start new eras." I thought there was no GTA 2 era? Also, how is GTA V so different from GTA IV? The only major difference I see is the location, otherwise: same time-setting (nowadays), some vehicles are the exact same (I'm repeating myself, I know), same engine... If we must start a new era because 3 games from the previous era were set in the same place, then why are there 3 or 4 different locations in the GTA III-era? I know you must be bored with this discussion Gboyers, I'm sorry about that, but if you think GTA V is a new era, so I think we should reconsider GTA San Andreas as an era different from the GTA III, Vice City and Stories Era.--Loadingue (talk) 20:20, 6 November 2011 (GMT)

::::I'm going to change my stance and agree with Gboyers on keeping GTA V seperate from the IV Era. It is best not to think of each "era" as being individual solitary universes. Technically, each GTA game exists in its own universe, which Rockstar are free to overlap in whichever ways they please. For example, III, VC and SA are canon with each other, but Claude is shown on a poster in Tommy's apartment, and Tommy Vercetti action figures can be found in the RC shop in GTA SA. It is best not to put too much thought into where the boundaries lie. The Eras are nothing more than a way to catergorise the games for easy reference, and game numbers are the simplest way to do that, like how terms like "Tudor" and "Victorian" are used to describe history. The Victorian era ended when Queen Victoria died, but it wasn't as if all the chimneysweeps suddenly changed into iPod salesmen overnight. If we start trying to overcomplicate things, it will start to confuse people. What would you call the games of the 360/PS3 generation if you grouped them together? The 4.5 Era? If the GTA V Era has a storyline canon to the IV Era, we can mention that on the respective pages.
::::Anyway, there is no need to start talking about "the GTA V Era" until the next game is announced, until then GTA V can be said to exist on its own - nobody refers to GTA 2 as the "GTA 2 Era". Articles concerning GTA V can just be called "X in GTA V". Hopefully, there'll be significant changes to things like Wanted Level between IV and V. --Bluesboyjr (talk) 22:06, 6 November 2011 (GMT)
