Carl is the lover of Marty Chonks' wife, who is angry over her death and is looking for revenge. Agreeing to meet Marty at the Bitchin' Dog Food Factory, he successfully avoids Marty's trap by killing him with a concealed shotgun, effectively taking over Marty's business. Carl can also be killed by the player as he walks away from Marty's corpse.
GTA III's depiction of Carl should not be confused with Carl Johnson, as he is Caucasian and speaks in an American English dialect (compared to CJ's African-American appearance and African American Vernacular English).
