Life until 1992
The Truth, at an unknown time, became both a hippie (possibly due to his upbrining) and a drug manufacturer, purchasing The Mothership as a means of moving the drugs. By 1989 he had become an aging hippie, meeting Dwaine and Jethro in San Fierro. It is also likely that at this time he had become involved in the various conspiracies against the American government. He had, some time prior to 1992, made the acquintance of both electronics expert Zero and corrupt police officer Frank Tenpenny, who began to use some of the drugs grown on The Truth's farm in Leafy Hollow.
The Truth, at an unknown time, became both a hippie (possibly due to his upbrining), drug manufacturer, and conspiracy theorist against the American government. In 1967 he purchased The Mothership, but stopped driving altogether in 1977 (after which, his main mode of transportation was "an astral goat named Herbie"). In 1989 he met Dwaine and Jethro at a concert in San Fierro, as well as polar bears that they partied with. As of 1992, he owned and lived on a marijuana farm in Leafy Hollow, San Andreas.

In 1992 when meeting Tenpenny he is introduced to Carl Johnson, who Tenpenny states will repay his debts for him. The Truth then has him steal a combine harvester from a rival farm and later, after the police discover his cannabis crops, employs Carl to burn the crops with a flamethrower. He accompanies Carl to San Fierro, asking Carl to drive claiming that he had not driven in fifteen years, travelling instead on his astral-goat Herbie.
In 1992, he was acquainted with corrupt police officer Frank Tenpenny, who introduced him to Carl Johnson. Tenpenny ordered a very large batch of marijuana from Truth, with the purpose of framing a district attorney, and made Carl pay for it. The Truth then has Carl steal a combine harvester from a rival farm. When Carl arrives at Truth's farm with the money, the police begin to raid it. This forces them to burn the crops and later shoot down a police helicopter with a rocket launcher (which Truth found in a batch of thai sticks and intended on making into a lamp).

In San Fierro he introduces him to Dwaine, Jethro and Zero to help him re-build his garage in Doherty, although he instructs Carl to go to the police headquarters and the hospital in San Fierro, watching a van both locations.
They immediately afterwards traveled to San Fierro, where Carl had recently won a garage property in a race. Carl is sorely disappointed in the property, though Truth tells him "the energy here is fantastic" and it would later become a successful business venture. To help start the business, Truth introduces Carl to Dwaine, Jethro and Zero. While in town, Truth directs Carl and Jethro to help him scope out a government-owned van equipped with mind control.

The Truth then disappears from Carl's life but resurfaces shortly after he purchases the abandoned Verdant Meadows Airstrip. The Truth, wary of the government's nearby secret base and Carl's involvement with undercover agent Mike Toreno scares Carl with his appearance and asks him to sneak into the base and steal the "Black Project". Carl manages to infiltrate the base and steal the "Black Project", a jetpack which cost $60 million to create. Carl then meets up with Truth on the top of Arco del Oeste, handing over the jetpack before being abandoned by Truth, eager to test out the jetpack.
Truth discovers that Carl is working for government agent Mike Toreno, which he is disappointed in him for, but remains enthusiastic as he rallies Carl to collect a mysterious, all-important green goo (which Toreno previously directed him to courier to fellow agents). When Carl recovers the green goo for him, he excitedly proclaims "Everything is different now" and that people will refer to 1992 as "Year Zero". Truth later calls into the  Area 53 radio show stating that he has held alien life "in my own hands", which may be a reference to the green goo.

Truth, unable to use the jetpack, hands it back to Carl and asks him to steal something, although even he does not know what. Carl, using the jetpack, does manage to steal the item, a green goo, and takes it back to Truth, who states that "Everything is different now" and that people will "call this (1992) 'Year Zero'". The Truth also phones in to Area 53 on West Coast Talk Radio stating that he has held alien life "in my own hands", which may be a reference to the green goo.
