San Andreas contains two Restricted Military Areas. These are the top secret government research base at Area 69, and the Easter Basin Naval Station.
Contents
Easter Basin Naval Station is a navy dock. On its LPH, (Landing Platform Helicopter) often mistaken for an aircraft carrier, is a Hydra jet. A random civilian vehicle spawns in one of the parking spaces, and an army Barracks OL truck on the opposite side. Near these is a Reefer boat. Inside one of the three submarine pens in the base is a Launch military boat.
Area 69 is a top secret government research base, possibly containing alien technology, named in reference to the real life military facility in Nevada nicknamed "Area 51". Inside Area 69 is a Barracks OL, a Patriot, a Cargobob helicopter, Hydras and Rhino tanks.
Security
The main problem with exploring Restricted areas is that entering the territory will instantly give the player a 5-star Wanted level. Any soldiers already in the area will fire upon you, and FBI vehicles will give chase until the player has lost the Wanted level.
Area 69 is a very strict No-Fly Zone — any aircraft (except the AT-400) flying over it will be shot down by the base's SAM launchers, which fire heat seeking SAM missiles. The player should fly around Area 69 to avoid this, or fly at a very high altitude. Another way to avoid SAMs is to use countermeasures, however these are fitted only on the Hydra.
