Jamaica, also known as Xaymaca by the Taino (Jamaica's indigenous population) is an island country located in the Caribbean Sea. Jamaica gained its independence from the United Kingdom on August 6, 1962 although the country's head of state remains the British monarch, Elizabeth II. The capital of Jamaica is Kingston.
