Liberty State Penitentiary (also called Liberty City Penitentiary) is a maximum security prison in Portland, Liberty City. It is briefly mentioned in the Introduction in Grand Theft Auto III in a Liberty Tree newspaper and media newscast. Claude was going to serve his 10-year sentence at the penitentiary following his arrest and betrayal, not before he and another prisoner, 8-Ball, break free from an LCPD Enforcer that transporting him to the prison following the Colombian Cartel kidnapping of the Old Oriental Gentleman.
