The Altruists are a cannibalistic cult living in a fortified compound in Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness, Blaine County appearing in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. The word Altruists means to have an unselfish concern for the welfare of others. In Zoology the word is applied to instinctive behavior that is detrimental to the individual but favors the survival or spread of that individual's genes, as by benefiting its relatives. The authorities within San Andreas know little about the cult, although their existence is known to certain individuals, including Trevor Philips and Ron Jakowski.

The in-game website Cultstoppers.com reports rumours of 'a remote rural hideout, daylight curfews, anti-technology vitriol and human sacrifice' as part of their description of the cult. The group, consisting primarily of elder men and women, are supposedly involved in a war against the under-40s at the request of Lord Zapho, an alien who is coming to reclaim the Earth. The website reports that no former members have come forward, which is almost certainly due to them being eaten. Cult members can be seen inside the compound walking around either half naked or fully naked with certain members standing guard at watch towers. Entering their compound will result in members shooting at the player. Despite their apparent disliking of technology, the cult has a website. The website, altruistsunite.com, features a number of segments filled with Morse code consisting of '.', '-' and '/' symbols, which can be read below.

After the mission Nervous Ron, Ron Jakowski will send Trevor Philips a text message regarding the cult requesting "lost souls" in exchange for money. Trevor, however, appears to know of the cult already describing them as his "friends in the mountains" and can later take certain random characters to their compound. After four "lost souls" have been delivered, a random event beigns with Trevor being led into the camp at gunpoint and, after managing to get free, must fight his way out of their compound by killing the cult members present. The event also allows Trevor to obtain $125,000, which is located in five briefcases worth $25,000 each around the camp. An event elsewhere in Blaine County sees two cult members attempting to attack and kidnap a woman.

• Ursula (Hitch Lift 2) (she can be called for a booty call)

The cult's website, accessible with the in-game web browser, is "www.altruistsunite.com". One can find the logo of the cult there, along with a string of Morse code. The Morse code translates to:

• In Grand Theft Auto Online, most, but not all, of the Altruists are wearing some form of clothing to cover private parts; whether this was due to censorship for online only is unknown.
