The Jewel Store Job is the first heist mission in Grand Theft Auto V. The heist is overseen by Lester Crest and completed by Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton, and a gunman, getaway driver, and hacker of the player's choosing.

Loud Approach

Description

Michael gives a brief about the heist at the garment factory. Lester states that he and Michael considered a more complicated plan but decided that brute force was the easier approach given the relative weakness of the store. Michael states that after the hacker disables security, he goes in and neutralizes the security guard while the gunman and driver come in afterward. While the gunman handles crowd control, Michael and the driver will raid the cabinets. Michael tells the crew that Franklin will handle the getaway while Michael escapes on foot.

After the briefing, the hacker takes the truck with the getaway bikes while the gunman and driver go with Franklin and Michael. During the drive, Michael attempts to build trust within the crew in a short period of time, with each person sharing their backstory. When the crew arrives, Michael tells Franklin to retrieve the bikes while the rest of the crew goes in. The crew busts through the main door, demanding that everyone get on the floor. Michael and the driver raid the cases as fast as possible, while the hacker informs Michael about their window before the alarm is reset. During the raid, the store manager comes out the office; however, the crew subdues her. If the player chose Norm Richards as their gunman, then he will fail to keep the crowd in check, and Michael is forced to subdue the manager.

After raiding the cases and exiting the store, a traffic cop tells Franklin to move the bikes; however, Michael knocks the cop down, telling him to forget what he saw. Franklin and the crew make their escape, going through the construction tunnel entrance below the Del Perro Freeway. Richards, if chosen, will crash at the tunnel entrance and drop his share of the diamonds; however, Franklin can recover them. The bikes eventually end up at the Los Santos River, where Michael and the hacker come in the truck to disable any pursuing LSPD cruisers. After reaching the rendezvous point, the crew load their bikes onto the back of the truck, and Michael drives to the lockup. After meeting up with Lester, he informs the crew that their cuts will be wired once the jewelry is cut and sold. Michael tells the crew to split up while he tells Franklin to meet him at his house later to celebrate the success of their heist.

Secondary objectives

Smart Approach

Description

Michael begins the brief about the heist at the garment factory. Lester states if he didn't need to run the operation, then he would disable security himself; however, he says the hacker should give the crew a decent window, depending on their skill. Michael states that they are going to drop a "present" down the air vent, knocking everyone out in the store; however, he says if things go south, the crew needs to act quickly and with force.

After the briefing, the hacker takes the truck with the getaway bikes, the getaway driver and gunman take the Bugstars van to the store while Franklin and Michael drive to the gutted building a block away from the store. During the drive, Michael lectures Franklin about his unproven nature. When Michael and Franklin arrive, Franklin climbs up to the roof and throws a gas canister into the store's air conditioning unit; if Franklin has any other thrown weapon in his inventory, Michael tells him not to throw those in by mistake. After the gas knocks everyone out, Michael and the crew raid the cases as fast as possible, while the hacker informs Michael about their window before the alarm resets.
