Big Smoke/Sweet & Kendl is the first string of missions in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas started once the player enters the marker outside the Johnson House.
Mission
Big Smoke
Carl Johnson enters his home and finds a picture of his mother, who was recently killed in a drive-by. He then takes a chair and sits while refreshing his memory from the last time they were together. All of a sudden, Big Smoke, a long time friend appears from the kitchen with a Baseball Bat and threatens to attack Carl because his face is unfamiliar at first. Carl "introduces" himself and recognizes Big Smoke the same moment and the two hug each other. Carl talks about how he is sad about his mother's death and wants revenge. The two, walk outside and drive over to the cemetary at Market using Smoke's Perennial for the funeral.
Sweet & Kendl
Upon arriving, Carl's brother Sweet and his sister Kendl are there along with another long time friend, Ryder. Sweet doesn't show a happy welcome committee and an argument between Carl and Sweet engages as Kendl goes away and says she's going to meet her boyfriend, Cesar Vialpando from rival gang Varrios Los Aztecas. After Kendl leaves, Sweet mentions how the Grove Street Families is in disarray, pointing out the resting places of Tony, Big Devil and Little Devil.
The four decide to head for Smoke's car and head back to Grove Street. Right before they enter the car, a Voodoo with Ballas gang members drives past and the Ballas manage to blow up Smoke's car. The team all find a BMX parked on the sidewalk and start heading back to Grove Street while being chased by the Voodoo.
After reaching a parking lot under the Mulholland Intersection, Sweet splits from the group as the Ballas follow him. Carl, Big Smoke and Ryder then cycle back to Grove Street, avoiding the Ballas Voodoo, which eventually trails them through Idlewood and Ganton. After arriving back in Grove Street, Carl announces his intentions to stay and to help the Grove Street Families, before entering the Johnson House.
Script
(Carl enters the Johnson house and picks up a picture lying on the floor)
Voices in Carl's head: Stop it! What are you doing? Carl, Brian, stop it! - Quit it! Moms will hear! - Mom, they're up to something!
(Carl is sitting and looking at the picture he picked up, when Big Smoke enters the room with a baseball bat in his hand)
Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris: You picked the wrong house, fool!
Carl Johnson: Hey, hey! Big Smoke, it's me, Carl! Chill! Chill!
Big Smoke: CJ? Oh, my dog! Wassup? Hey baby, you okay, man?
Carl: No, man, it's my Moms, homie...
Big Smoke: Hey, I don't know why this had to happen, but I promise you, I'm going to find out who killed your moms. The streets is cold, dog. Like it says in the book, we are blessed and cursed.
Carl: What fucking book?
Big Smoke: Same things make us laugh, make us cry. But right now, we gotta take care our business. Go see your brother at the cemetery. C'mon, let's bounce.
(Big Smoke and Carl exits the house and walks out to Big Smoke's car)
Big Smoke: You wanna drive?
Carl: Yeah, that's cool. Nice car, Smoke.
Big Smoke: You know me. It's not cut. Keep the value in it. Keep it real.
Reward
The reward for completing this mission is increased respect and the Johnson House is available for use by the player as well as the ability to buy safehouses in areas available for roaming around without police attention. Completing the missions unlocks the Ryder mission.
