License Templates & Categories

I need to ask you, can you count artwork, and maps as screenshots, or should you leave the licensing section blank or replace it with something else? And with businesses, and weapons should they go into the general category or the more specific one or both? --Gta-mysteries 22:53, February 24, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I start sorting them out if needed.--Gta-mysteries 00:13, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

I think this might explain why a few of people have shown some hostility towards you. Although your organising is almost always correct, it's difficult for normal users to see what happened to the stuff they wrote, who did it, why they did it, and where everything is now. Most of this could probably be solved by redirecting after a merge (instead of just deleting), redirecting misspellings, directly contacting users who have a pattern of accidentally doing things wrong, and {{prod}}ing questionable content instead of immediately deleting it. Of course most of it should be deleted, but if some people might disagree (for whatever reason) then we should take that into consideration and either redirect them, give them a chance to discuss, or explain directly to them. Not trying to judge, just trying to prevent people getting upset in the future, without causing this wiki to become disorganised. Gboyers talk 00:57, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

Before I say this, don't think for ONE second that I think we should be more like Wikipedia, but their criteria for speedy deletion is something we could use a bit more. Articles should only be deleted after given a chance for a {{prod}} discussion, unless it is completely 100% obvious that it should be deleted. This would include nonsense, test pages, vandalism or spam. Duplicates or typos should be redirected (and merged wherever possible). Things in the wrong place (ie questions not being in the forum) should be moved (leaving a redirect). If you're not 100% sure then just prod it, then someone can jump in and explain. If nobody replies, delete it a couple of days later. Is there anything wrong with that or could I make some of it Policy? Gboyers talk 01:12, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

So should I remove the regular business category, and go with the game(s) specific ones?--Gta-mysteries 01:34, February 25, 2010 (UTC)
And when should I use the places in (district name). Should that be just for district names, and landmarks.--Gta-mysteries 22:07, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
Well I'm finished with the Businesses in GTA San Andreas page. I'm about to start on the others. And I didn't really understand your response on my discussion page.--Gta-mysteries 23:15, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
OK thanks I understand it now, and this should be done for every business that appears in different districts?--Gta-mysteries 23:22, February 27, 2010 (UTC)
I was going through some of the businesses and some have two categories that pretty much mean the same thing. Like clothing, and clothing stores, music, and music stores, , clubs, and nightclubs, and radio and radio stations. Could you tell me if these belong in both or one?--Gta-mysteries 01:22, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

Also some of the images are tagged with the public domain template. Should GTA screenshots be tagged with it's corresponding template?--Gta-mysteries 22:32, March 2, 2010 (UTC) And I know it's against copyright to use images from other sites with watermarks, but it is against it to use screenshots of videos with watermarks?

Well I think I'm finished with the public domain category. Could you take a look at it, and tell me what you think?--Gta-mysteries 04:02, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

Should there be a template for modifications, instead of using the general screenshot because regular images are copyright to Rockstar Games? Except for those using modified original files. And modifications aren't really copyright, more in the public domain. And there is an image of manhunt that uses a GTA screenshot template, what should I do about this?--Gta-mysteries 20:35, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

When I make changes on the template should I leave the middle section as is, and should it be used on all that use the original game for modding, other than completely building one? And the first part shows copyright for the GTA game, but is the mod non-copyrighted, when showing who developed it should I include the source or the person/team. --Gta-mysteries 01:32, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
So just leave the template as it is?--Gta-mysteries 01:59, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

And I think I'm done with the all of the business sections, and categories. Do you think you could take a look at these for me? Thanks. --Gta-mysteries 02:22, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your help, and your welcome.--Gta-mysteries 02:46, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Checkpoint Charlie

I corrected the wording of the article. THEN, then I added the improtance of the mission. I can't believe I hadn't already thought of this; for this is the very mission that frustrated me for the longest time over why I wasn't getting the cell phone call leading to the final two missions. I "cheated" eventually, asking someone why the hell it wasn't happening. I had only done the side missions that seemed important or that weren't frustrating like I had thought this one was. Daniel Christensen 23:02, February 28, 2010 (UTC)

Hey why the Hell won;'t it let me add an infobox or do rich text editing; it says it won't cause of the complex text that exists; why is this a dumbed down version of wikipedia? It actually makes it harder for me; as I am used to Wikipedia. Daniel Christensen 23:06, February 28, 2010 (UTC)

Okay I figured out the template thing but the "game" part of the template doesn't show up no matter how I enter it; this is all SO easy on Wikipedia; by watering it down to make it easier it's actually much worse; Wikipedia is already watered down obviously from the level of HTML it takes to make a webpage; but it is watered down just right; not too much or little. This half and half shit here is ridic. Daniel Christensen 23:23, February 28, 2010 (UTC)

Mission Layouts

I do have some questions on how a mission article should be written. Should it first start with the infobox, then a brief description of the mission, location, and mission giver? Then a walkthrough, script, and gallery section?--Gta-mysteries 03:11, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Like this--Gta-mysteries 03:34, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

I fixed it, and do all headings have the second word lowercase or just the external links?--Gta-mysteries 03:48, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Should all of the missions in the basic category be removed?--Gta-mysteries 00:35, March 8, 2010 (UTC)
And do all missions need walkthroughs on a separate page?--Gta-mysteries 02:54, March 14, 2010 (UTC)

You being an admin, do you think you could do me a favor? Could you undelete the image File:Cedar Ridge Observatory (GTA3).png long enough for me to get it on my computer? Thanks.--Gta-mysteries 21:30, March 9, 2010 (UTC)

Finishing Businesses Sections

I have an idea on how to get all of the businesses in each game. I don't know if it's a good one, but would it be better to use images of them in all the places they appear in, instead of having all of the separate articles? --Gta-mysteries 02:41, March 10, 2010 (UTC)
So use a table on them, like on the Businesses in GTA Vice City page?--Gta-mysteries 02:49, March 10, 2010 (UTC)
Should it be something like this?--Gta-mysteries 03:21, March 10, 2010 (UTC)
Got it, but what about the businesses that have articles? Should those go into the chart too?--Gta-mysteries 02:33, March 11, 2010 (UTC)
Could you take a look at the page again and tell me if that's right? And should the type of business heading be removed and put in the chart?--Gta-mysteries 02:48, March 11, 2010 (UTC)
Should they be alphabetized or in order according to type? And I think I'll start with GTA3 on my sandbox.--Gta-mysteries 22:22, March 11, 2010 (UTC)
I've added a new table at the bottom of the page, with a notes section, and a caption under the image.--Gta-mysteries 02:17, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

Just to clarify, whether businesses deserve their own article depends on whether a) people care & will look for information specifically on this, b) whether there is more than 1 sentence worth of relevant information, c) whether it will be linked to from many different places. If the answer to those is yes, then you can make a page. If the answer is no, then you might as well put the information into the tables of businesses in city/game/era. A-Dust is right in saying that we should try to be inclusionist and hold as much information as we can. However, if we had a page for every single building in every single game, it would be impossible to manage and maintain. I think there should be a difference between businesses that do things ingame (such as media companies or pay'n'spray), enterable shops (24-7), mentioned/advertised companies (such as Sprunk), and dud shopfronts that are nothing more than a photo (1 Hour Photo). I don't think the dud shopfronts deserve articles, and they are better off going into a table, since there is only 1 sentence of information we could ever write (games, locations, photo). Having 1000s of articles about them that are never used or looked at makes managing them a lot harder, and makes vandalism/errors much harder to find. We can still have all the same information, but put it into one page instead. No? Gboyers talk 16:37, March 14, 2010 (UTC)

That's what I'm working on. I was putting putting the information of businesses that are already made into a table like you recommended a while back. It does look better than all of the individual articles.--Gta-mysteries 19:43, March 14, 2010 (UTC)

joe's pizza real life

i'm new here. Don't know if this kind of information is useful. Here is some lionks of the original joe's pizza from which photo may have been taken by rockstar :

Very good research! Almost every shop front/texture in the game was photographed by Rockstar somewhere in New York City. You can always tell by the quality of the textures which is photographed and which one is self-made by Rockstar. I'll add it to the German GTA Wiki. Thanks! Zaibatsu 23:29, March 13, 2010 (UTC)
PS: The house numbers match perfectly: both marquees show the number 233. Zaibatsu 23:40, March 13, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for triple-posting but I just realized that the allegedly "handrails" (my assumption) are in fact bar tables. Rockstar just photographed them as well. Zaibatsu 23:46, March 13, 2010 (UTC)

Modding Template

Would it be a good idea to use a more specific category for the modification template just like with the screenshots? I've added in a source syntax for it, and was wondering if one template could be used to auto-categorize something instead of making more templates, or manually adding in categories.--Gta-mysteries 00:19, April 4, 2010 (UTC)

That didnt really make sense. Surely {{modification}} should be for articles about mods, and {{mod screenshot}} would be for screenshots of mods. As for an screenshot template-template, I absolutely agree. I've updated {{screenshot}} for this purpose. Gboyers talk 01:29, April 4, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, A-Dust

A couple of things:

First, as it seems that the "There are no Easter Eggs up here. Go away." sign in GTA: San Andreas is like the Hidden Signs from the GTA III and LCS games, it might be good to create a trivia section in the Hidden Signs or Gant Bridge page ststing the possible connection and therefore continuation of th joke. If you want me to explain my reasoning better, please ask.

Second, since apparently there really is a Bigfoot in San Andreas, first I want to know if it can be interacted with. Second, is it hostile? Will it do anything?

Oh, BTW, sorry about my signature. Apparently, customization does not transfer between wikis.

{{SUBST:User:BioShockGuy52/Signature}} 13:14, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

Ill Take Her...

I don't know if it was because I had the pistol [Glock 22] at the time or it is just not mentioned in the Mission Page "I'll Take Her...", but during all the fighting and mouthing Gracie does in the car, Niko pulled out the pistol and threatened to shoot her if she didn't stop hitting him and grabbing the wheel. It does not really deter her that long after he puts the gun away. Is it worth noting on the mission's page in Trivia or somewhere?{{SUBST:User:BioShockGuy52/Signature}} 00:00, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

Random Hooker

You know the abandoned hospital you where you get Elizabeta's cocaine from in "Snow Storm"? Well, in the game after the mission, if you return to the hospital and go to the large back room that has a couch, sometimes there will be a random hooker/stripper slumped over on the couch sleeping. One of them seems to be a unique character model, a lightly clad white female with extra high leg boots. She can be killed like a normal NPC. Hobos also seem to have taken this place over. Weapons found here are the Combat Shotgun [Remington 87] and Assault Rifle [Kalashnikov AK-47]. Is this noteworthy? BioShockGuy52

In the Adult Product store in Algonquin, the one that you can enter, and I think it is also in a mission cutscene, there are bags over some of the more 'extreme' porn magazines. One of the bags over the magazine says 'Animal Lovers', so it is probably bestiality porn, and another bag says 'Fuck it, this is T rated!'. Just a little hidden joke, I guess. {{SUBST:User:BioShockGuy52/Signature}} 18:58, April 15, 2010 (UTC)

Use of images within webs

Hi A-Dust. If you remember I'm member of GTARevolution's Staff, the biggest web of GTA in spanish. You and me talked a long time ago about the collaboration with this wiki, my web and/or Spanish wiki. We were agreed for using images and information, always quoting the original source. The problem is that some users of Spanish wiki "stole" some images and information from Revolution and used them in the wiki without quoting the original source (GTARevolution).

I've watched that you always quotes my information, but you sometimes use information of spanish wiki that you believe is original from they, and it's incorrect because it's mine. Please, if isn't a lot of work, I would be grateful if before use any information of spanish wiki, you advice me if this information is mine. Actually, you can use the information of GTARevolution directly.

In this moment I'm revising all images and information in Spanish and English wiki that I suspect is originally mine. If I found someone, I will quote the original source (my idea is not request the removal, simply quote them). I'm not distaste with you (and other English wiki users that could use my information), is not your business if others users (Spanish wiki) stole my images and information. Simply, I'm asking you for the future.--_CuBaN_VeRcEttI_ 11:52, June 27, 2010 (UTC)

Thumbnail images uploaded instead of originals

Hi. I noticed you've gone ahead uploading images that failed to transfer from Wikia, but I have a comment.

Most of the images you copied are still not the original full resolution images, but rather reduced versions as shown in their image pages at Wikia; these versions tend to smaller as the originals are too large to fit the resolution of the internet browser (any originals more than 800 pixels wide, for example, are resized into 800 pixel wide thumbnails by default). Also, Wikia has the tendency to render any resized JPG thumbnail in poor quality JPG, which degrades the clarity of the image; thus only the original is genuine. For comparison, here's an original at Wikia and its reduced version as seen on the image page (note the "800px" suffix). I've taken the liberty of showing what needs to be done at File:Cluckin'Bell-GTASA-OceanFlats-exterior.jpg.

You can access the original image by clicking the image itself in their image page. I trust you know how to upload here via URLs? - ZS 21:25, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

RE: Leon McAffrey

Sorry about the misunderstanding on that, but would you care to enlighten me? I was under the impression, both from in-game events and articles such as Ray Machowski, that the attempt to kill him was made in Silence the Sneak, he was seriously injured but not killed, and later Claude was sent to kill him again in Plaster Blaster (accounting for his hospitalization and body cast). "(Boss)" and "(Killed)"

Hello, A-Dust.

I've been going through some of the pages on this wiki and I've noticed that in the "Mission Appearences" section of a character page it commonly says "(Boss)" and "(Killed)" after certain missions. I don't know what those mean and was hoping that you could tell me.

I edit regularly on the Red Dead Wiki (Wikia), and the same thing was on character pages there. However, after a talk with the admins, we decided to remove them. I don't think they make much sense, because Billy Grey (for example) isn't really a boss until the final mission.

I hope this doesn't come across as rude. I'm just trying to get some information. Thanks.

Mission Images

Hey there, I have a question. I've been uploading images for some missions in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and I happen to notice that a lot of the screenshots have letterboxes, and more annoyingly, subtitles. How come the users who upload it don't have it removed by editing it first to make it look more professional? Silver Infernus 16:09, 4 June 2011 (BST)

Template capitalization

Shouldn't templates be all lower case?--spaceeinstein 18:08, 17 June 2011 (BST)

Yep. All templates should be lowercase, just to make them easy to use and for consistency across them. It's less important for templates that aren't used by anything, but definitely any templates used in main articles should follow that naming convention. Would be good to rename the ones that aren't, although no huge rush. Gboyers 18:48, 17 June 2011 (BST)
Oh and just to add, the first letter makes no difference. {{cubans}} and {{Cubans}} are the same thing. Mediawiki always shows the first letter as a capital, but lets you use either. Gboyers 19:00, 17 June 2011 (BST)

What do you mean "typing out the descriptions in full"? You mean typing the full name of the game? It feels redundant to type the full name, which is why I never bothered to do that, but the descriptions would look complete if written fully. I would like more input on this.--spaceeinstein 20:24, 18 June 2011 (BST)

That would be good, but I think the direction of the view of the camera should just apply to wide view shots showing a general scenery. It would be too much work and would feel like overkill to do that for specific shots like of characters and objects.--spaceeinstein 20:40, 18 June 2011 (BST)
Yes, something like the Nick Kong image description would be nice.--spaceeinstein 21:08, 18 June 2011 (BST)

Gallery images

Is there something wrong with the images I've been uploading? It makes sense if you don't think about it 17:49, 30 June 2011 (BST)

All right. I'm currently going through GTA: San Andreas again, and I'm taking screenshots of 1680x1050x32 resolution with subtitles in English in the image (instead of in the letterbox). Would those be okay, even though they're larger than the other gallery images? It makes sense if you don't think about it 19:23, 30 June 2011 (BST)

Right now, I'm taking one image per mission for most missions. For some, I picked more than 1, because they're all pretty important parts of the mission. I haven't taken any in-game screenshots where you can see the HUD (mostly because I'm busy shooting someone or speeding down a road with the police chasing me). But I guess I can go over San Andreas and Vice City one more each with whatever key points of the missions there are. If you don't want letterboxes and subtitles, I can keep them off, because I personally think they look unprofessional on the wiki. It makes sense if you don't think about it... 20:40, 3 July 2011 (BST)

Hey, I noticed that the list of missions in GTA San Andreas is missing some images . Since the page is locked, can you post my uploads of Sweet&Kendl and High Stakes, Low Rider?

By the way, there's a few mistakes. Under the section "OG Loc" upon completing "Life's a Beach", "Madd Dogg's Rhymes" is listed as a reward instead of an unlocked mission. And the link to "First Date" leads to an disambiguation page, rather than the GTA: SA mission. It makes sense if you don't think about it... 04:13, 4 July 2011 (BST)

Never mind, it's not actually locked. By the way, sorry if my uploads are messing up the numbering order, but I didn't want them to have the same name as an existing .jpg image to avoid confusion. Can you hold on before renaming them for when I'm done going over all the missions?

And one more thing. I've noticed that most of the images in the article infoboxes show the beginning of the mission. I know why because it's where the start of the mission is. But since we're keeping subtitles to make the image look more "interesting", shouldn't the most "interesting" image be the one on the list of "missions in GTA San Andreas". Especially because a lot of missions you do for the same person start the same way, with Carl talking to them inside their house. And if they're all placed one on top of each other on a long list, it's going to look boring. It's different from introducing the mission on the articles, which stand individually. What do you think? It makes sense if you don't think about it... 05:45, 8 July 2011 (BST)

All right, then I'll keep the images as they are on the list. Oh, and I've got more images to post, but you're welcome. It makes sense if you don't think about it... 23:46, 9 July 2011 (BST)

Mission images

Hi, I was wondering about those. I'm guessing the reason that almost all of them are in Polish is because we don't have our own yet? That annoys me more than anything, and personally I think it lets down the standard of this site. Are you free to upload new English versions of them if you want to? I understand that you (the staff in general) want the subtitles there, but is there any other limitations to the images, like resolution? --Andreaz1 19:22, 19 July 2011 (BST)

Anyone is free to upload better quality images if they have them. I personally agree with you that they need to be in english. I think I read somewhere that they were copied from the polish GTA wikia. But yeah, if you personally have better quality images, by all means, feel free to change them.--Tommy-Vercetti 19:36, 19 July 2011 (BST)

Thanks for your help. I don't have, but I can take new ones. I tried using the "upload new version of this file" option, but all it did was change the size of the original version and stretched it to the resolution my image is. However all the content of the image is still the same, so the subtitles are still in Polish. Yeah, that has me confused. :/ --Andreaz1 23:51, 19 July 2011 (BST)

I would just reupload a completely new copy then tell one of the admins about the polish one so they can delete it. I see them deleting old pictures all the time. Try that.--Tommy-Vercetti 00:22, 20 July 2011 (BST)

Seems like that is my only option. I tested uploading an image of my own in the Sandbox, and uploading a new version of that image worked perfectly. If I try uploading a new version of one of A-Dust's images (tried it on two now) all that happens is that the original image gets stretched. Would uploading a completely new one and marking the old one for deletion work? --Andreaz1 14:27, 20 July 2011 (BST)

Uploading a new version of a file DOES work. However, your PC doesn't always re-download the new version of the file (why should it?), so it just stretches it instead. Just hard-refresh the page (Ctrl+F5) or clear your cache, and you will see the changes. Gboyers 15:51, 20 July 2011 (BST)

Oh my god. Sometimes I just want to sink through the floor. Thanks. --Andreaz1 15:56, 20 July 2011 (BST)

Hey, could you take a look over the Tasks page and update it? I hope to push this forward a bit more, and I'd like it to be a useful point-of-reference for new members, more experienced members and admins alike. I might split it up into easy/hard sections too. What do you think? Gboyers 23:41, 21 July 2011 (BST)

That's no problem, I was asking you because you (and ZS) do a LOT of cleanup and organisation on this wiki that I don't even know about! I've made a couple of edits, and I'll keep an eye on it. I don't mean for it to be an exhaustive list of everything that needs doing; just a quick-start guide for people that want something to do. I'm also in the process of adding a welcome message for new users (again), and I'll include tasks in that. Feel free to edit either. Thanks - Gboyers 23:55, 21 July 2011 (BST)

I originally thought I sent the message to ZS, lol.

Anyway, thanks for that. I'm currently working on the cleanup articles.

Oh, yeah. That's what I wanted to ask you. Any suggestions for a signature? How do you make one?

Why you deleted my Love Fist screenshots? TheReaperHoldsOurHearts 17:56, 17 September 2011 (BST)

Excuse me?

Is there a reason why you reverted some of my edits, mainly in the pages of Ray Machowski and Leon McAffrey? Awc

I'm confused, and it looks like a few other people are too. Whats the deal with you just completely reverting perfectly fine edits and picture additions? And you don't even give a reason why? ALWAYS PUT A SUMMERY. So then people can understand WHY you're doing something. Just because you're an Administrator shouldn't mean you don't have to follow any of the rules. Grand Theft AJ 02:08, 23 September 2011 (BST)

In reply to Re:Pictures
I respect your decisions, but when you talk about using your time elsewhere apart from putting a summary, what about the users who have to take time out of their editing, to check what was edited, and why it was edited? Instead of just looking at the summary and moving on which would be nice. You know what I mean? It only takes three seconds to write one, and that's all I asked. I understand what you mean about the extra pictures, however I disagree about the main picture for Victor Vance, the picture now just seems too blurred, the picture I had replaced it with was much more clear and larger. Please try to remember your not the only Grand Theft Auto fan editing this site. Can we not at least have a respectful discussion about it? Grand Theft AJ 19:07, 24 September 2011 (BST)
No offense, but that's a bad excuse for not putting a summary. I've been here just as long as you, and I'm still writing summaries. If you're that worried about time, you should think about how much of it you're putting into this wiki as opposed to life. I mean yeah it's cool, and I love Grand Theft Auto more then a lot of things, but there's limits. That aside, I think you're a great attribute to the site, and I hope we can get along. I don't want to make enemies, or have arguments, I just want to edit in peace, and be at peace with other editors and come to solutions in normal discussions.

I edited the picture for Vic Vance by the way, how is this one? Do you think it's alright? File:VictorVance2-GTAVCS.JPG Grand Theft AJ 20:48, 24 September 2011 (BST)

Alright perfect, and I apologize for approaching the subject somewhat hostile, that wasn't my intentions I just can't express myself exactly how I want through typing, as opposed to how it would sound in person. It wouldn't sound as bad in person haha. I'll use the image naming policy from now on too that slipped my mind, and I'll edit images I come across that are not properly named too to clean those up if it's easier. Have a good one. Grand Theft AJ 18:23, 25 September 2011 (BST)

Re: stuff

In reply to Re:Pictures

Actually, it is precisely your no-nonsense attitude and attention-to-detail that I like. I don't pick staff that'll just agree with whatever I say, I pick staff who have good ideas of their own, and staff that will work together to make this wiki awesome. I know we disagree on a number of points, but it's not that I think your ideas are wrong/bad/stupid (you wouldn't be staff if I thought that!!), it's just we often have to choose one way of working - sometimes we'll use your ideas, sometimes we'll use others. To be honest, I personally consider you in charge of images, simply because you have much more experience, knowledge and input into images than anyone else here. I agree with your comments to AJ - images should be useful, not there just for the sake of it. As you know, my preference is for a general/helpful/descriptive/clear image in the top-right (on virtually every page), then specific, targeted images throughout articles and in galleries. This is to ensure we cater for the 3 main reasons someone would read an article: just randomly browsing (simple image helps); actively interested in the topic (simple overview, detail later); or looking up specific information (accurate detail is important). I know you often champion the accuracy and detail side of things, which is great, but I need to make sure we remember the casual visitors we have too. As you say - just having multiple images of the same character from different angles is not useful for anyone. As for edit summaries, I enabled them by default to encourage editors to think about and explain their edits, particularly where they are not-obvious or controversial. More experienced/trusted users can get away with not leaving a summary because there's no controversy or confusion. I can see you've disabled it in your preferences, which is fine. I know you always have the article's best interests at heart in all your edits, so there's never going to be a problem. gboyers talk 03:42, 23 September 2011 (BST)

Re:Protagonists in GTA 1

Would you like to discuss the issue of including subpages for Protagonists in GTA 1 and Protagonists in GTA London? These subpages will be turned into redirects for the sake of simplicity, but since you had a hand in restoring those pages after I redirected these pages the first time, it's only fair that we talk about it here. Thanks. - ZS (talk) 17:54, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

News articles

Hi. Do you think it's better to have all news articles be under one author, like TJ Barry? Or is it better to separate author from the news article, like Peter Armstrong and Another Punch in the Gut for Organized Crime?--spaceeinstein 00:36, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Re:Game logos

Thanks for talk page reply and the heads up on the logo. As for the logo, the help is appreciated but Ultorultor's logos for GTA games from GTA III onwards omits the "Grand Theft Auto" bit, so Spaceeinstein's GTACW logo doesn't quiet cut it. While I wait for Ultorultor's reply, I'm also attempting to separate the "Chinatown Wars" text from an image of the logo myself. - ZS (talk) 12:00, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi A-Dust, Gboyers told me you've given me the right to patrol articles? Thanks, I didn't know about that until I got the message.

By the way, you'll notice I've been back to adding pictures for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas missions. Most of them were old, low quality, and some pages didn't have enough pictures. I'm in the process of adding new ones, but I've kinda messed up the order they appear in the gallery by file name. If it's a problem, could you move them around? Also, some pictures I've simply uploaded as updated versions of .jpg but after a while I noticed that the newer versions of images don't take for a while, even after purging. So I think I'll just upload everything as .png now, could you delete the older unused pictures? It makes sense if you don't think about it... 01:51, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

If you go to OG Loc (mission), scroll down to the gallery and look at image #4 ("CJ and Loc shoot at Freddy."), you'll see the first version of the image. You'll only see my updated picture by clicking on it. Also, the thumbnail of the updated picture is identical to the first one. This has been the case for any new version uploads I've made on all the mission articles. It makes sense if you don't think about it... 02:33, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

If I may drop in here and answer part of your question - when you re-upload a new version, it does change straight away (unless there's a problem I don't know about). It's only your own browser that caches (remembers) the old version of the file and its thumbnails. I can confirm the image you mention above HAS changed to reflect your replacement, but the thumbnail hasn't yet (I'll check that). Best thing to do is do a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5) or clear your cache. Or if you just want to check whether it's gone through, try using a different web browser or enabling private/incognito mode, which will show you what everyone else sees without using your cache. As for unused pictures, just add the {{delete}} template to the File's page and an admin can delete it. gboyers talk 02:49, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
Correction - there was a problem, and I've now fixed it. Should work normally now. If you ever get a problem like that again, it'll fix itself overnight when the scripts run. gboyers talk 03:10, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Don't delete my images

What's your problem? Don't delete my images. Content nowadays needs to be changed. You might want the old image but deleting my image? That's nonsense. I prefer the new image, and it has a higher resolution. SFK363 (talk) 15:37, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Bot replace tool

I've added a new bot function that you can use yourself, at Special:MassEditRegex. Instructions are here. You can use this to mass-replace templates, categories etc on any list of pages you want (such as a list of pages already in the category you want to change. I've also added Special:ReplaceText which you can use on ALL pages in one go. Just be careful, and test it on a test/sandbox page before running, especially if you aren't familiar with RegEx! gboyers talk 19:21, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Loss of rights

Hmm, I noticed that you were no longer a bot. Strangely, I can still move and delete, but I no longer have access to Special:UserRights. The list at the top of my preferences says Autoconfirmed Users, Logged in Users (which is why I said it's strange that I can move and delete). The user rights were lost in the past due to an update, and Gerard manually restored them, so something similar may have happened. Gerard is the only person that has direct access to the software to look any further than that. JFletcherTalk (formerly User:Biggest gta fan ever) 22:08, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

How do I change the title of an article?

How do I change the title of an article? GTA CJ Bellic (talk|edits) 18:01, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

I'd like to see the title of Roman's Killer changed into Faustin's Bodyguard, because he only kills Roman in the "Deal"-ending, not in the "Revenge"-ending. GTA CJ Bellic (talk|edits) 19:33, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

1. Why the severe simplification of image categorization, like this image page for example? The new setup does nothing more than clumping hundreds of categorized images into a single category, making it impossible to locate specific images.

2. Is there a need to use roman numerals for image names? I have serious trouble properly typing these in compacted image naming formats. I've already mistakenly typed "VI" as "IV" twice.

- ZS (talk|edits) 19:01, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

1. Still not sure how that works. Articles are usually listed above images, so their presence in a category is not necessarily a hindrance. An explanation of how consistent naming would make it easier for images to be located.
2. I am well aware of the fact that these games use Roman numerals and the fact that we have to use them when referring to them formally in articles, but trying to extend its use to every aspect of the wiki doesn't seem very helpful, especially for something as petty as image names, let alone a compact image naming convention where it's hard to distinguish an acronym from a Roman number. While I'm all for consistency, this rigid adherence has gone a little overboard.
- ZS (talk|edits) 21:29, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
1. I was requesting for an explanation on the talk page about how the new category system is an improvment.
2. Considering the fact that the GTA Wikia is still hogging all of the traffic and is edited far more extensively (despite the severe degradation of quality), an extensive naming regime shouldn't have been top on our list of priorities for now. What this wiki desperately needs is improved content if it is to compete with the Wikia, and we're don't even have enough manpower to do that anymore since this wiki lost its momentum a year after the move, having far less active editors than the Wikia. There is seriously no point for these standardizations if there is little to no new content to go with it.

Leon McAffrey dies in Plaster Blaster

If you played this mission, then you know that Leon McAffrey survived Claude's attack in Silence the Sneak. Ray is very angry that Claude failed to kill McAffrey, and the mission is to throw him out of his ambulance and to kill him with a car. So he is injured in Silence the Sneak and killed in Plaster Blaster. Did you play the mission, or did you skip it? People can complete GTA III without doing the mission. Quotes are a great way to introduce a reader to a character. I've spent too many hours of my time on this wiki and the internet finding good quotes for each character to have it all deleted. How about a discussion before you start deleting stuff? Therefore I have given you and Gboyers my reasoning for reverting your quote edits. I will not change every single one, as I feel some of the quotes could be stronger, however I feel most of them at the moment, are great. Grand Theft AJ (talk|edits) 22:14, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Strong quotes can be much more powerful at conveying what that character is really about, particularly for people who haven't played the game. Whether they are quotes of the character or about them (by someone else), I think they can be useful. It also helps stop the page being a solid wall of text - catching the eye and offering a slightly different way of looking at things, which is great. If you're concerned about the way they look, talk to me and we'll change it. I know you don't believe in edit summaries, but if you're undoing someone else's hard work, offering a brief explanation is just polite. gboyers talk 12:04, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Era / 3D HD

They have always been referred to as either "GTA III Era" "GTA IV Era" etc. I believe you are making an unnecessary change that will only cause confusion as opposed to making the Wiki better.
An example of this confusion is on the page for Crow, you wrote:
"is a character that appears in the 3D Universe and the HD Universe (the GTA IV and GTA V eras)"
This is evidence enough that even you must clarify it as the original Eras to avoid confusion, thefore I will be reverting any Era name changes back to the previous versions until Gboyers says otherwise. Grand Theft AJ (talk|edits) 05:47, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
