Liberty is a fictional American state in the Grand Theft Auto series that parodies the real world American state of New York. It is unknown if the Liberty state replaces the state of New York with the Grand Theft Auto World. All that is known is that it is on the east coast like the real New York state, and that the rest of America exists around it. The state is called in GTA III Era Liberty State, while GTA IV Era Liberty City State, but also could be called State of Liberty to avoid any confusion in the name.
Known cities and areas in Liberty State
- Liberty City: The state's main city and probably the capital.
- The Carraways: A little-known city, which is only mentioned in GTA IV Era.
- Carcer City: A city of Manhunt, possibly located in the state, due to it apparently being close to Liberty City, because in GTA III is mentioned that Carcer City is "nearby" to Liberty City by the Lips 106 DJ.
- Capital City (Albany)
Related states
In GTA 1 there a landmass to the western of Liberty City, known as "New Guernsey". As in GTA IV Era, where there is also a mass near Liberty City, but now known as "Alderney. These two places are an identical reference to New Jersey, playing the role of neighboring Liberty State.
