Los Desperados is the penultimate central storyline mission and one of the last two in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, given to protagonist Carl "CJ" Johnson by Mexican-American Varrios Los Aztecas gang leader Cesar Vialpando from deuteragonist and Grove Street Families leader Sean "Sweet" Johnson's house in Ganton, Los Santos, San Andreas.

Mission

Carl drops by Sweet's house in Grove Street and starts to talk about the hood and the riot going on. After a little argument, Cesar Vialpando, a close friend, appears and says that his hood is screwed up and he needs to get his gang back together. Carl agrees and they recruit two Grove Street gang members for help while meeting up with three Aztecas veterans, Sunny, Hazer and Gal in Unity Station.

Upon arriving there, they all start to attack the waves of Vagos gang members protecting El Corona. After clearing out the houses by the railway, they head deeper in the turf on an alleyway. The Vagos manage to injure Hazer shortly before being completely cleared out. The crew go to the serious part of the district and the last wave of Vagos have gang members carrying flamethrowers and rocket launchers. Carl and the rest of the team manage to survive the gunfight, thus the Aztecas taking over El Corona. Cesar and his fellow homies decide to get Hazer to a hospital and thank Carl for helping out.

Script

Sweet: (on phone) Yeah, so get the place locked down. No one's gonna ruin the hood. You hear me? No one! Alright, see you.

(Sweet hangs up, Carl comes in.)

CJ: Whattup?

Sweet: We almost got the hood under control, man. CJ, this is some serious shit, man.

CJ: Hey, man, I know, man. I went through a lot of shit for this family since you been gone, so I know.

Sweet: What? For yourself. Not for the family. Don't get shit confused, nigga.

CJ: Man, when you gonna give me a break?

Sweet: When you stop acting like you the man. You keep yapping on what you done did, let me tell you what I done did. When Kendl needed shoes, I went out and got the money. When Moms needed an operation, I robbed people for the bread. While you were off in Liberty City thinking about your own shit. For five years, come on man. Now you do something, you want a fucking parade? Nigga, please.

CJ: That ain't fair man.

Cesar: (arrives in haste) Carl, man, I need your help.

CJ: Man, I'm kinda busy right now. Family shit.

Cesar: I helped you guys, hombre. It's time you helped me and my homies. My hood's screwed up too. We got this shitty neighborhood on lockdown now.

CJ: Alright, what you need?

Cesar: It's time to get my old gang back together, push out those yay-slanging punks, eh.

CJ: I know, but I got a lot going on right here in my own hood, man. And I made my brother a promise.

Sweet: (as Carl turns to him) All your brother wants you to do is pay back your debts, CJ.

CJ: (ponders and turns to Cesar) Alright, I hear you. I got your back - c'mon, let's roll.

Cesar: Orale! The Varrio's coming back!

(Outside the house, Cesar and Carl discuss an action plan.)

CJ: OK, so what's the plan?

Cesar: We're going to meet three of my veterano's over at Unity Station.

CJ: Three, is that all? A'ight, I'm a get a couple of Family boys to come through too.

Cesar: (while Carl is recruiting gang members) Shit's real serious, man, look at the streets, eh.

CJ: Yeah, we better watch ourselves, man.

Cesar: Don't want to get caught on Ballas turf while this shit's going down.

CJ: Man, Tenpenny brought the central to its knees.

(They start driving with two Grove boys.)

Cesar: While we here, I, eerr, I have a question to ask you.

CJ: Yesh? What?

Cesar: Well it's... it's personal.

CJ: Come on, man, we're brothers, you and me. You can ask me anything.

Cesar: OK, here goes. I want to ask Kendl the question.

CJ: What's the problem? Call here, dude, here, use my phone.

Cesar: Noo, holmes, THE question!

CJ: What? Oh shit, you mean POP THE question. Well, I'm OK with that, you know, I appreciate you asking my permission and shit but -

Cesar: Nah. I know you're cool. It's Sweet who is the problem, could you talk to him?

CJ: Sure thing, Cesar, I'll talk to him.

Cesar: Thank you, CJ, that means a lot to me, holmes.

(Carl, Cesar and two Grove Street Families members arrive at Unity Station)

Sunny: Those Vagos, man, I'm gonna cut those cacos. Raspalo hasta el hueso!

Cesar: Hey, carnales, what's cracking, holmes?

Gal: Cesar! And you must be CJ. Cesar says you cool, so we cool, holmes.

(Cesar, Sunny, Gal and a third friend, Hazer, along with Carl and the Grove boys, are approaching Vagos territory.)

Cesar: OK. Check it out. We will have to work our way through this neighborhood to get to my house. If we stick together those Vagos pendejos won't stand a chance! Watch each others' backs, amigos. Hasta la muerte!

Gal, Sunny & Hazer: HASTA LA MUERTE!

(Everyone starts attacking the Vagos sets.)

Cesar: Northside Vago assholes! Keep together! Quickly, go! GO! Keep it tight! (once all sets are cleared) That's the last of them, let's move out! (arrives at the alleyway with everyone) That was the easy bit, eh. Now we go into the viper's nest. This is were it gets tough. Luckily we have a little surprise up our sleeves, eh, Sunny!

CJ: That's a rocket launcher man! We'll bring the National Guard down on us!

Cesar: Look around you, CJ, the whole city is a war zone! C'mon, I want to take my house back!

(While shooting at Vagos gang members, Hazer is suddenly killed by a Vagos member hiding in a side garage. Cesar and Sunny rush to his aid.)

Sunny: Hazer!

Cesar: Shit, Hazer...

Sunny: He is pretty bad, Cesar...

Cesar: Watch up heads! More Vagos! They're coming over the walls!

(A few Vagos surround them.)

Sunny: More Vagos behind us!

(After finishing off the Vagos who killed Gal, Cesar, Sunny and Carl are approaching the last wave of Vagos.)

Cesar: Let's fucking finish this!

CJ: I'm with you man, let's take these punks.

Vago: Vagos rule this varrio now - Aztecas are no more - This is Vagos neighbourhood now! Burn Aztecas burn - Burn them - Torch those Aztecas!

(After finishing off all the Vagos gangsters, Cesar, Sunny and Carl head to Cesar's house in El Corona.)

CJ: Alright, that's the last of 'em.

Cesar: How is Hazer?

Sunny: We need to get him to a hospital!

CJ: Hey, I'll take him.

Cesar: CJ, you have done more than enough, holmes. You should get back to the Grove.

CJ: Alright ese, I'll see you after all this is settled down.

Cesar: Thank you, CJ and good luck, my friend.

Post-mission Phone Call

CJ: What up, bruh?

Sweet: CJ, I been thinking. The city's big but it ain't that big. Some fools know where Smoke's hiding. But long as the Grove Street Families don't rule the streets, his money is going to mean more than our rep.

CJ: What'chu got in mind?

Sweet: We gotta hit those Ballas and Vagos with everything - hit every neighbourhood they got.

CJ: If that's the only way, I'm down for that.

Sweet: I will see what I can find out on the streets. Big love, bro!

CJ: Much love, bruh!

Reward

The reward for completing this mission is an increase in respect and the final central storyline mission End of the Line is unlocked, however atleast 35% of territories , nearly around 19-20, must be taken over by the Grove Street Families in order to start the mission.

Trivia

  • Successive to this mission, the gang warfare mini-game sub-mission that follows suit before End of the Line can be skipped if Carl acquires enough gang territory after Riot. However, while there is also a method to skip the gameplay of this mission itself, the procedure to that in itself is quite complicated and may not work in most versions of the game, especially the PC version.
  • Curiously, while this mission states that it is the Vagos who have taken over the Aztecas' turf, before the mission, the gang war radar has it as the Ballas instead, meaning that drug trade relations between the two gangs had naturally expanded to include territory, but only for the Aztecas, as the Ballas had assumed complete control of all turf belonging to the Grove Street Families after The Green Sabre, since they were first allies to secondary antagonist Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris, who only included the Vagos later on when they agreed to drive out the anti-narcotic Aztecas and cooperate with Smoke in plaguing the city completely with drugs.
