The Green Sabre is the twenty-seventh storyline mission and the twenty-fifth central storyline mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, accessed independently by protagonist Carl "CJ" Johnson under inspiration from his brother Sean "Sweet" Johnson from his house in Ganton, Los Santos, San Andreas.

Mission

The three feuding families of the Grove Street Families have come together to due to Carl's efforts and Sweet decides to finally get back at the Ballas. Sweet also makes good with Carl and calls him his running dog. He then orders everyone to get heated, and meet him under the Mulholland Intersection.

Carl, however, is side-tracked on the way by a call from Cesar, who has some important news for him. At first, Carl explains he is too busy to meet but Cesar is insistent, so Carl heads to the meeting place under the freeway north of Verdant Bluffs to meet Cesar, who is inside a Bravura with tinted windows. Cesar and Carl look ahead, as some Ballas exit a garage, followed by high-ranking Grove Street Families members Lance "Ryder" Wilson and Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris, and finally corrupt C.R.A.S.H. officer Frank Tenpenny, whose partner, Edward "Eddie" Pulaski then reverses a car out of the garage, which is revealed to be the green Sabre that was used in the drive-by in Grove Street which killed Carl's mother Beverly hardly some time before. However, although he does not see Ryder, Carl does sight Smoke, and concludes that he has betrayed the Families to the Ballas.

Suddenly, Carl remembers the shootout at the Mulholland Intersection which Sweet was partaking in, and realizes that Sweet and the rest of the Grove Street Families were lured into a set-up meant to kill the unfortunate leader himself. Remembering his professionalism, however, he first orders Cesar to escort Kendl to safety in case hell breaks loose, and then races over to the underside of the Mulholland Intersection before Sweet and the homies are killed. Upon arriving, Carl sees a deadly shootout taking place, and that Sweet has taken a hit. Out of loyalty, Carl stays with his brother to hold off the Ballas hordes. Numerous Ballas members come and shoot at Carl and the rest of the gang. Carl wipes them all out until the police arrives and Carl, along with a grievously injured Sweet, surrenders.

Once cops arrive, Sweet is taken into a prison hospital, while Carl leaves with C.R.A.S.H., which arrests him, and is abandoned in the countryside in a small rural town, Angel Pine. Tenpenny confronts Carl and, with Pulaski's help, threatens Carl against even a thought of trying to get back on Smoke, who Carl can't stop cursing for his betrayal. Pulaski then leaves him alone with a camera, while Tenpenny explains to Carl that he needs to kill an FBI witness who is trying to testify against the crooked officer to Internal Affairs, and is hiding atop Mount Chiliad.

Reward

There is no monetary reward for this mission, but the Badlands mission is unlocked. After the end mission cinematic, the player's weapons will be stripped with the exception of a camera. The player may now buy any safehouse in the countryside, and the player may now save at the Angel Pine Save Point. Also, the player can now traverse Flint County and San Fierro without any police attention.

Grove Street Families and Varrios Los Aztecas territories will be respectively relinquished to the Ballas and Los Santos Vagos. All natural assets, including the cash pointer at The Johnson House, will vanish.

This essentially marks the inception of the exile chapter in the game, which ends with Vertical Bird. The only way to ensure the end of the exile chapter is to complete all missions except Puncture Wounds before starting Home Coming, which reverts all natural losses made at the end of this mission back to their original and implied status.

Trivia

  • In the opening cutscene, a bald GSF member with a goatee and a dark green coat can be seen. Aside from an earlier appearance in Los Sepulcros, he cannot be seen anywhere else in the game. This could be an unused gang member model.
  • This is the fourth mission to use the Trip Skip feature, the previous two being Just Business and Madd Dogg's Rhymes.
  • The song that is playing inside Sweet's house is Fuck wit Dre Day by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, a song that also can be heard in Radio Los Santos.
  • While Carl is in the car with Cesar, in the PC version, the steering wheel will have the edges of a square, indicating poor texture.
  • There is no "Mission Passed!" notice after this mission.
    • However, on the iOS, Android, and HD Remaster versions of the game, the "Mission Passed!" notice appears like normal.
  • The Sentinels and Sabres in this mission are scripted to regenerate after being hit. However once they have been damaged enough, they will simply become indestructible.
  • If Carl is inside of a car when the police come, he will simply put his hands up, whilst in the car.
  • The Green Sabre (storyline version) in this mission is never seen again after the mission, although it appears throughout The Introduction. The player can mod a Sabre to have the same green paintjob via Transfender.
  • There is a glitch in the iOS version of the game which causes a gang member's mouth to become stuck open during the first cutscene of this mission.
