Barry Harcross is a character in the 3D Universe who is mentioned on the Liberty Tree promotional website for Grand Theft Auto III.
Character history
Barry Harcross is a businessman from Liberty City, who in 1997 was falsely charged by the FBI for money laundering for the mob in his construction company, of importing drugs from his Colombian Office and of other crimes. Charges however were dropped after three key witnesses decided against lying in court and some evidence was deemed inadmissible.
He left the United States for South America, but returned to Liberty City in February 2001, thinking of buying the Liberty Tree newspaper. He told the Liberty Tree website: "Thanks for believing in me, Liberty City. I want to get on with my life. These allegations were nonsense, and I want to do what I do best, bringing jobs and investment to our great city." His return to Liberty City led to the return of Donald Love, who began buying media outlets for his Love Media company.
