Dwaine, also spelt Dwayne, is a character in the 3D Universe who appears as a minor character in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. A mechanic who is usually seen with best friend Jethro, he is voiced by Navid Khonsari, who also voiced pedestrians in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and has directed San Andreas.

Character history

Dwaine, at some point prior to 1986, had become a skilled mechanic working on marine engines along side best friend Jethro at their boatyard in Viceport, Vice City.^[1] The two, seemingly comfortable in Vice City, sell their business to mob boss Tommy Vercetti. The two, prior to 1989, leave Vice City after they could no longer return to the boatyard and settled down in San Andreas. The two attend the '89 Fierro Love In, located in San Fierro, where they met The Truth, an aging hippie who began selling them drugs from his farm in Leafy Hollow.

Dwayne, presumably unable to find work as a mechanic, began selling hotdogs from a hotdog van at the tram terminal in King's, San Fierro. The Truth, having befriended garage owner Carl "CJ" Johnson, suggests Dwayne and Jethro as good mechanics for the garage and both are later hired. Dwayne and Jethro continue to appear at Carl's garage, initially seen to be working on a car, playing cards with Carl and his garage business partner Cesar Vialpando, looking at a car and sitting at a table with Carl.

Trivia

Dwaine can be seen wearing a t-shirt with the Rockstar Games logo during the cutscene after Tommy Vercetti purchases the Boatyard.
Unused audio file along with their associated subtitles in GTA Vice City suggested that Dwaine and Jethro were also to appear in "The Fastest Boat" for Ricardo Diaz.^[2]
