Acts at Perestroika
Perestroika, a cabaret club in Grand Theft Auto IV, features a total of four different acts, two of which will be shown each time the player watches the club's show. The acts that show up in each show are fixed in sequence and order. All in all, a total of six different shows can be played before they are looped. The quality of the acts vary between each of the performers, and at least one act is depicted to be plagued by problems.
The performers do not appear outside the realms of the shows, and are only seen within Perestroika.

The Incredible Kleinman | A magician who entertains the audience by cheating death, with his "lovely assistant" Laurel, who he implies is his ex-lover.
He is seen in many acts but fails each stunt as he gets either seriously injured or apparently killed like getting stabbed inside the black box and set on fire by Laurel, shot through the head by a Pistol, his left hand nearly severed with a guillotine, and cut in half by a table saw. He claims he was distracted by the thought of "that filthy stagehand [his assistant was] trolloping with." Laurel isn't immune to mishaps, as she is apparently injured, possibly rendered paralyzed (or so Kleinman says), after a levitation stunt goes wrong in one performance, and she gets stabbed in the shoulder by a throwing knife in another. His "cheating death" acts did not go very well as the audience becomes frightened. It is unknown how he keeps performing acts even after fatal accidents, or how his assistant does after she was paralyzed. Although it is possible that the reoccurring injuries are actually part of their act (for example, at one point Kleinman is apparently shot in the head), or that they've just been miraculously mended.
Bluesy St. John | Southern blues singer who sings about being abused as a child, pursuing a sex change, losing her baby child to aliens, and a variety of other personal problems, with some of her songs being quite brief and preceded by long rambling monologues. Though it is not much of an entertainment, many audience members finds this female singer amusing and quite attractive. During her shows, she implies that she is drunk/drugged while on stage, and it should be noted that most of her songs are obviously fictitious (even in the GTA universe), and it's quite possible her apparent drugged-out behavior is an act. Once she goes to scene, voice says: "What a fool!" in Russian, but subtitles says "You are welcome". Al is her personal piano player. Bluesy is voiced by Melody Sweets, who is in real life a noted burlesque performer. Sweets is credited as a motion capture performer in the game, suggesting she may have performed the physical role of St. John as well as the voice. | Bluesy has a star on the Vinewood Walk of Fame in Los Santos, San Andreas in Grand Theft Auto V.
"Catch" | An ordinary juggler dressed in a jester costume against a medieval backdrop with varying, yet ordinary, juggling acts, like juggling knives and solid concrete blocks (in blue). In one act he manages to juggle three chainsaws without injuring himself. An apparently competent performer (unlike others in the cabaret), Catch is always applauded by the audience as he closes his act.
Dusty Cowpoke | A performance artist who jumps and rolls around mimicking the movements of a cowboy in a shootout, and uses his hands like a revolver. The theme of this show takes place in a western-style desert with a classical country music. The audience disliked his performance, most likely because his entertainment is much less appealing, and is the only act the audience will boo at. (In reality, his athletic performance is a showcase for GTA IV's motion capture.) He is only seen in the first act in the game, but also appears during the introductory cutscene for "Final Destination", and during the introductory sequence of "First Date" explaining friendships and girlfriends in GTA IV, when he wears a white 10-gallon hat (the only time he dons a headgear).
The music Dusty is performing to is similar to the tune played in Redwood Cigarettes commercial heard on the radio stations in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. |
